Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

This is an interesting study and the findings could open a new debate in the banking literature. Since this study focuses on the banking sector, I suggest adding a new paragraph in the literature and briefly explain about the recently published studies in the field of the banking sector and linking to the gap. I suggest several studies such as: "Financial Inclusion, Political Risk, and Banking Sector Stability: Evidence from Different Geographical Regions. Economics Bulletin42(1), 99-108."; "Examining the impacts of environmental characteristics on Shariah-based bank’s capital holdings: role of country risk and governance quality. Economics9(1), 99-109." You can also add studies that discussed the investor protection-risk-dividend policy nexus, external governance, regulatory settings-profitability nexus, and political and economic risks-risk takings behavior in the banking sector to provide a comprehensive picture of the research that has been done in the banking literature.

Reviewer 2 Report

1. After reviewing studies on sustainable banking, it would be interesting to reflect the statistical material regarding the studied objects in each of the studies.

2. Apparently, the topic of sustainable banking is not so relevant, since only 30 publications were found over a 10-year period. Why did this topic interest the authors?

3. It is rather curious why no publications in North America could be found.

4. The authors should have more clearly shown the scientific result of the study. What increase in scientific knowledge has been achieved.

Reviewer 3 Report

The paper is well written and offers a wide systematic literature review with focus on corporate social responsibility. I suggest that the authors can consider the following recommendations:

- to read the text one more time and to remove small  typing mistakes (e.g. missing dots or double spaces

- some paragraphs are quite long, so I suggest to consider more segment (divide) the text and to improve the comfort of the readers

- in the discussion part to consider to create the table with the major findings/topics
