In title, you need to specify the GA-SVM when it first appear since readers may not familiar with this abbreviation within your field.

In abstract, you need to describe and add the major results and novelty of your study. Did you compare with other regression models?

In line 33, you need to add reference for this statement of temperature increment.

Using the proper, subscript and superscript. Such as 20th in line 56, and CO2 in line 68. Please check all of them in the remaining content.

In line 91 to line 96, you introduced the section of this study. This looks like a thesis format. In the paper, you need to mention the major research gap and your objective of study at end of article.

In introduction (line 82), you need to add some of other regression models. Linear/non-linear models, random forest, ANN, etc. using the suggested references. Then, introduce why you select your GA-SVM.

Regression Model to Predict the Higher Heating Value of Poultry Waste from Proximate Analysis. Resources 20187, 39.

Machine learning models for prediction the Higher Heating Value (HHV) of Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) for waste-to-energy evaluation. Case Studies in Thermal Engineering31, 101823.

Missing the description of Figure 1. In addition, add the references for the data in Figure 1.

In Figure 2, you need to add reference if you adopt this from textbook or other publications.

Equations should have the proper citation as well.

In section 2, your method description is close to the thesis or dissertation. You need to reorganize this part.

Figure 4, it is not very clear and missing reference.

Again, Figure 5 is not your result. You need to remove this part from your results section.

Again, you need to add references for the carbon influencing factors. Why you select these factors?

Figure 8 is blurry and not clear.

For 3 different scenarios, did you only consider the population? How about other 6 factors effect?

How did you validate your samples? After you got a new model, you need to validate this model using additional samples. Please read and cite following article during your validation process.

Thermal Properties and Combustion-Related Problems Prediction of Agricultural Crop Residues. Energies 202114, 4619.

In your study, you select few factors and built a GA-SVM model to predict the carbon emissions. How this model is better the previous models? What's the previous models in other researchers' paper?

In conclusion, you need to mention the novelty of your study. What's the major research gap that this study will fill?  What is future study?

I hope these points will be addressed in the revised manuscript. I am looking forward to review the revised version as well.

Best regards,

Reviewer 3 Report

1. Introduction is too long, first and second paragraphs are too verbose. No need to provide so much background information should be straight to the point.

2. The third paragraph of the Introduction is a brief literature review however the articles cited in 4-9 are not researching the same scope with the authors’. The title should also be changed, the research topic is carbon emission of the transportation sector, not traffic emission. Please rewrite the literature review and suggest to research more about long-term transportation emission projections.

3. For the second section, please confirm the definition of indirect carbon emissions. Raw coal is not an energy consumption of the transportation sector, and you didn’t mention jet fuel, fuel oil, etc in your study.

4. What subsectors of transportation are you including in your calculation of Jiangsu transportation sector carbon emissions? The energy consumption transport data (data from the transport sector, logistics, and warehouse) you gathered from the China Energy Statistical Yearbook does not include private cars and freight vehicles under 4.5 tons (these are included in the private sector data). You chose Motor vehicle ownership as a factor is mainly private cars which are not consistent with the data you are using.

5. How did you choose Population, GDP per capita, Motor, vehicle ownership, etc. as the main influencing factors? Have you considered the co-linearity between these factors?

Why not consider industry structure as this is more relevant to passenger and freight transport?

6. You only used 19 years of data from 2002-2020 to predict the next twenty years of emissions with the regression model, I doubt that this sample size is statistically sufficient to use such a model for such a forecast.

7. The paper needs to be reviewed by a native English-speaking person.

1. Line 48, "It represents third largest source of carbon emissions." Relevant supports need to be added.

2. In the third paragraph of the Introduction section, for citations of related literature, please cite more recent literature.

3. The first paragraph of Part 3.1 has formatting problems.

4. Please comment the contents of the first and second rows of Table1 to indicate their content properties.

5. The final recommendations section should be richer.

Round 2

Reviewer 2 Report

Dear Authors:

I am glad to review your revised version. Below are my minor comments:

1.  Please add the references for the adopted Figures, such as Fig. 1, Fig.2.

2. Please add additional explanation for the  MAPE, and R using and citing the following references.

Regression Model to Predict the Higher Heating Value of Poultry Waste from Proximate Analysis. Resources 20187, 39.

3. Labeling for the Figure 5 is not correct and should be revised.

4. For the conclusion, you need to address the major conclusions from your results. In addition, please add the future study.

5. In Figure 8, how did you select three different carbon emission scenarios? What's the standard/source?

6. Figure 6 should be updated with table since the errors are not linearly related with the different models.

7. Please add the correct data source for for the Table 1, Carbon Emission of Various Energy Sources in Jiangsu.

I am looking forward to see your revised manuscript with improvement based my comments.

Reviewer 2 Report

Dear Authors:

I believe you made a significant changes with major revision process.

I hope you can slightly modify based on the following comments:

1. check grammar, spelling, format and writing style with help from the professional writer.

2.  Add reference for Table 1.

3. Figure 5 is not very clear and replace with better quality.

4. Make more compromise and short version conclusion with major findings to emphases the novelty of your study.
