Comments and Suggestions for Authors

1.      The authors have proposed three limitations on the research subject, the side effects of these limitations should be clarified to make the readers understand the research goals of this study.

2.      The definition of water footprint should be introduced in the introduction section and the reasons that the authors use water footprint to evaluate the coupling coordination relationship between water and soil resources matching should also be clarified in the introduction section.

3.      The section 2.1 is very hard to read and follow, and the theoretical mechanism is not entirely clear. In this section, many descriptions about the relationship between food production and the coordination of water and soil resources are common sense, and it is recommended to simplify them significantly.

4.      The insights put forward in the conclusion or suggestions for future coordinated regulation of water and soil resources and food production are very macro level and lack operability.

5.      The paper uses long paragraphs to describe the research results and conclusions, and some long and complex sentences are also not conducive to reading. Therefore, the authors need to further polish the paper to meet English expression habits.

Comments and Suggestions for Authors

This paper analyzed the coupling status of two subsystems, regional soil and water resources matching and food production, and measured soil and water resources matching for five food crops. Using the water footprint accounting method and the water and soil resource matching coefficient method, a comprehensive evaluation of soil moisture and tuberous plants in the typical black soil region of Northeast China from 2005 ~ 2021 was carried out. It is of great significance to improve the effective food supply and water utilization efficiency in the region. The comments are as follows: 1. Line 319: The Y in Yp is not written correctly; in the formula, please be consistent in the way the letter i is written. 2. In 3.1: Soybean has the highest water footprint per unit mass of the five food crops, with high water consumption for production and low yields, so why is it less expensive to grow compared to other food crops. 3. In the chart, please indicate the meaning of each variable. 4. Table 5 is incomplete and missing. 5. cultural labor (AF2) replaces food sown area (AF3) as the main impediment to the coordinated development of the system after 2018, is it because of the reduction in the area of arable land thus making cultural labor the main impediment to the coordinated development of the system, and what is the ranking of the impediment indicator of cultural labor before the next time. 6. The discussion section is a comparative analysis with the findings of others, rather than a direct presentation of one's own findings and a simple accumulation of the content of other scholars' studies. There is a clear lack of in-depth discussion in this section. 7. The text is more introductory; the discussion section is shorter; and the conclusion section is lengthy. It is suggested that it be reorganized.

Comments and Suggestions for Authors

Dear authors! The work is of great theoretical and practical importance for ensuring food and environmental safety in the production of grain crops. The use of water and soil resources and the problem of their restoration in the production process are very important. It is very important for both the manufacturer and the government to evaluate the process of recovery of these resources. The study provides an important tool for solving this problem, both in order to increase soil fertility for a particular enterprise, and to optimize public policy and develop new instruments of government support. The study is based on a significant array of literary sources.
