Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

Comments and Suggestions for Authors

The paper is not reviewed as a research article, as the paper is a commentary (hence, no methodology or methods).

Interesting but major concern is tightening up the different sections. Sometimes unsure about transitions.

Seems up-to-date with many of the latest issues.

Bibliography is fine.

Major concern: Besides commentary and summary, unsure what is novel or groundbreaking here.

Comments on the Quality of English Language

Paper needs minor revisions. Some paragraphs are long and some language is awkward.

Comments and Suggestions for Authors

Even though the paper does not have a valuable and original contribution to the Academy, it seems interesting as it gives an adequate picture of the situation and advocates a more inclusive way of teaching children in team sports. So I think the paper should be published as it is useful for teachers, coaches and educational staff in sport.

I would only encourage the authors to take a deeper approach to the structural problem of sport being understood mainly as a competition, thus losing the educational and social side. However, this could be addressed in a future paper.

Comments and Suggestions for Authors

This paper deals on methodologies for inclusion in teaching games in Physical Education. Although it is an interesting and important topic, and the authors seem to know it very well and provide valuable insights, in my opinion it has two main weaknesses: on the one hand, it is impossible to differentiate conclusions already reached by previous literature from the original contributions of the authors; secondly, the paper seems too general and does not provide precise methodological indications and tips for an inclusive PE. Although it seems to me that it could be a good paper, I suggest rewriting it fully in order to solve both problems mentioned.

Comments on the Quality of English Language

The paper is generally well written, but it needs also a thorough stylistic review to improve some passages. I have found for example sentences with no verb ("Through modification of rules, negotiation and contract, accountability for inclusive team play with active participation of all colleagues, for improvement the processes of solving game problems", lines 438-441), sentences with two verbs ("it is crucial to recognise appreciate the competence and autonomy of students in co-creating their curriculum...", lines 483-484), and problems of concordance ( "if teacher intervention and regulation dismisses", dismiss in singular would be preferable: line 281).

Comments and Suggestions for Authors

I acknowledge the effort of the authors in improving the quality of English language and style.

Although in my opinion the new version of the paper continues having the two weaknesses that I pointed out in my first review, the authors have argued in their response to my comments that the purpose of this paper is to do mainly a literature review, and they have clarified what has been their specific contribution in the concluding paragraph.

However, I think the purpose of the article should also be more clearly announced in the introduction. Specially, the sentence of the concluding paragraph according to which "this paper intends to discuss the previous literature and confront the various ideas and proposals with the remaining problems of teaching games in PE", or a sentence with a similar content, should probably appear in the introduction and also in the abstract.

Response: Thank you very much for your recommendations, which have greatly helped improve our work. Although we have not been able to address all your suggestions fully, their significance has inspired us to consider writing another paper focusing on "methodological indications and tips for an inclusive PE". A significant gap between theory and practical solutions needs to be addressed. In accordance with your advice, we have added another sentence to both the summary and the introduction. We hope this addition meets your expectations.
