Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

The study is interesting in estimating an accurate tunnel deformation using laser scanner measurements and algorithm, B-spline, and ICP. The following comment may improve the study presentation:

- In abstract: numerical accuracy presentation in the abstract is required; this may improve the abstract and address the manuscript's aim in this section.

-  In introduction: The organization of this section should be improved, Line 86 for example, the authors present a conclusion of the above literature; however, after that, there is another literature section was presented. I think this affects the fellow of the manuscript.

- Algorithm presented in Figure 1; however, data processing and extract accuracy of measurements are missing. I think the whole data processing and accuracy estimation should be presented in the flowchart.

- The overall accuracy of the proposed model should be revised and improved, point 3 accuracy is very low. why? even the point accuracy in the horizontal and vertical directions is acceptable.

- Data noises affected the designed model accuracy; this of course will increase with noise effects. this point should be described and discussed in the revised manuscript. see figures 9-14.

- Limitations of the proposed models should be presented and discussed.

Reviewer 2 Report

The paper seems to suit Remote Sensing as well as special issue scope. The paper is focused on applying method integrating B-spline fitting and ICP alignment to high-precision tunnel deformation monitoring. The level of originality of the paper is good and the paper is quite interesting and well written. In Introduction, the authors gave very comprehensive topic background. Methods section is described moderately. The authors also presented many results and wrote discussion and conclusions in sufficient way.

However, I still have some remarks which are listed below:

1.    Pages 3-4, Introduction, last paragraph. Please highlight the aim of the paper.

2.    Pages 3-4, lines 134, 154. Please provide full names of RANSAC and ICP. This remark concerns all acronyms which appear for the first time within main text.

3.    Page 4, Fig. 1. Please provide full name of TCL.

4.    Page 5, line 195. Please add the equation number.

5.    Page 6, eq. (4)-(6). Matrices and vectors are usually marked in bold. This remark concerns the whole text.

6.    Page 6, lines 234-245. Please consider rearranging this text part. Now the alignment process, especially points 4 and 5 are quite illegible. For example, please write exactly when fmin is satisfied (e.g., by using formula).

7.    Page 9, Section 3.3., Fig. 6 and 7. Please add some short round-up of the results presented there.

8.    Page 9, line 311. Which figure or figures do you mean?

9.    The most of references are written by Chinese. Please add more papers which are written by the authors from other countries.

10.There are some typos within text. Please read manuscript carefully and correct them. Please check if all variables and Latin phrases are written in italics.

I recommend revising the article before publication in Remote Sensing.
