A Fourier Transform-Based Calculation Method of Wilting Index for Soybean Canopy Using Multispectral Image
Round 1
Reviewer 1 Report
The manuscript is written in a clear and well structured way; the results are clearly presented. The cited references are mostly recent publications but I reccomended an indepth study of recent references of other authors. The paper can in principle be accepted after minor revision.

The paper presents a method to calculated the wilting index of soybeans using a multispectral camera.
The manuscript is badly structured and crowded out by details not relevant for the main goal of the work (e.g. l. 189-207, 220-249, 263-271, 287-306, 308-312, 327-349, 429-450, 465-484, 593-607, 621-634, etc.). Mathematically obvious results are presented long and wide without any added value (e.g. l. 369-383). Important information are missing or shortly dropped (e.g. l. 386) between long paragraphs of non-relevant numbers.
Statistics is missing completely. The manuscript reads if only one multispectral images has been acquired. The size of the acquired dataset is not mentioned, at least I could not find it in the manuscript!
The manuscript is lacking of grammar. I suggest to completely re-write the manuscript after it boiled in! To my opinion, the content of the paper is good for ~8 pages…
Some general questions:
1. Why calculating for each spectral channel an independent wilting index? Then also just a RGB camera could be used?!
2. How was the calibration calculated? I.e., where are the numbers coming from?

The topic is extremely interesting. Here you can find my comments.
OVERALL: Please, enlarge and re-arrange all figures and font size. Also, it is mandatory using HD images in order to improve the scientific quaity of your study
INTRODUCTION: Please, consider in the scientific background of your study also the use of novel image processing methods in the monitoring of forestry, and environmental engineering studies (i.e.,

The article has been improved according to the suggestions of the reviewer. Very little imrpovements are needed:
OVERALL: Please, improve more and more the color contrast in Figure 4, Figures 6-12, Figures 14-17. This is extremely important for the clarity of the scientific message associated with the manuscript.
INTRODUCTION: Please, consider also the application of multispectral-based image processing in water resources managment (i.e.,
