My comments are reported in the uploaded revised version.

In addition, I recommend the authors to try to shorten and simplify long or complex sentences to make them easier to be read.

Reviewer 2 Report

Dear Authors,

the study on the optimisation of light duration and spectral composition sounds interesting and novel mostly for the first part of the work (photoperiodxPPFD).

Nevertheless, major revision is required for the following points:

- INTRODUCTION, references on the diel cycle manipulation should be added;

- EXPERIMENTAL DESIGN, the spectral treatment number 5 or control  is not controlled, it is not comparable to the others, thus it should be removed from the manuscript unless clear comparison and accurate settings (including discrimination of sunlight from lamps emission and environmental conditions showing no discrepancy between growth chamber and greenhouse environment) are reported;

-M&Ms, two tables clearly explaining in detail the tested light treatments should be provided and the two separate experiments should clearly be mentioned and described separately;

Please see the attached pdf for detailed comments.

Kind regards
