Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report (Previous Reviewer 1)

Dear editor and colleagues,

I have read the revised version of the “Effect of Fomesafen on Quality and Amino Acids of Vigna angularis Based on Metabonomics” manuscript resubmitted to agronomy-mdpi

The authors have provided the necessary technical explanations and I believe that data produced are valid. The manuscript also has been substantially improved in terms of English.

I have minor comments that the authors can take into consideration.

It is generally a good linguistic practice (across the text) when opening a sentence not to use number (1, 2, 3) but a letter (one, two, three etc).

Table 1 is not very informative and has too many details in digits. For instance, y=3.62534e 4x+2745.21904. In correlations studies it is advisable to indicate datapoints using figures and also add the equation. But since all statistics across AA are >0.99 (L155. The linearity R2 of all indicators is more significant than 0.99, indicating good linearity), it can go to supplementary data

Figure 1 needs a scale bar for comparison

Based on the above I recommend acceptance after minor revision

Author Response

Dear reviewer, thank you very much for your valuable suggestions for my Manuscript ID: agronomy-2154630. These suggestions have further improved the quality of my articles and are very helpful to my future writing. Thank you again. Now I will answer your suggestions:

Point 1: It is generally good linguistic practice (across the text) when opening a sentence not to use a number (1, 2, 3) but a letter (one, two, three, etc).

Response 1: Thank you very much for your suggestions. I agree with you very much, and make changes in the corresponding places of the full text, which are shown in red font.

Point 2: Table 1 is not very informative and has too many details in digits. For instance, y=3.62534e 4x+2745.21904. In correlation studies, it is advisable to indicate data points using figures and also add the equation. But since all statistics across AA are >0.99 (L155. The linearity R2 of all indicators is more significant than 0.99, indicating good linearity), it can go to supplementary data

Response 2: Thank you very much for your advice. I agree with you very much and added data in the corresponding position, which is displayed in red font.

Point 3: Figure 1 needs a scale bar for comparison.

Response 3: Thank you very much for your advice. I agree with you very much and added a scale in Figure 1.

Thank you again for helping me review my manuscript and giving me valuable suggestions.

This study is very interesting and has a scientific topic with a great impact on the field. The manuscript will be suitable for publication after taking care of the following minor comments.

Detailed comments:

The English language and /writing style is fine needs some minor check spelling and grammar check

Abstract

_This section is missing the direct aim of the study. Please state the aim of the study clearly in this section.

Keywords:

-The keywords has been chosen very carefully and accurately but

- please add the word metabolomics to the keywords list

Introduction

-The introduction doesn’t provide sufficient background and it is missing enough relevant references

-This section needs to be elongated and enriched with more background about this topic.

Materials and Methods

-it is ok and adequate

 Results:

The results are very interesting and well presented but some figures needs a better discussion (figure4and 7 and 10).

Figure 2 in line 201 please delete statistical diagram of

Also add description for the letters a,b,c,…. In the figure legends.

Discussion:

_This section is poorly written

  • the author is strongly advised to combine the results and discussion in one section for better interpretation and discussion for the presented data.

Please rewrite and discuss in details, and fully discussed with related citations.

Point 3: The introduction doesn’t provide sufficient background and it is missing enough relevant references. This section needs to be elongated and enriched with more background about this topic.

Response 3: Thank you very much for your valuable suggestions. I agree with you very much, and make a supplement in the introduction, which is displayed in red font.

Point 4:The results are very interesting and well presented but some figures need a better discussion (figure4and 7 and 10). Figure 2 in line 201 please delete the statistical diagram Also add a description for the letters a,b,c,…. In the figure legends.

Reviewer 3 Report (New Reviewer)

I would like to stress that I support the potential publication of this article due to its scientific interest. On the other hand, many aspects of the manuscript need to be extensively improved. I strongly advise the authors to take into serious consideration all of the following remarks to improve the quality of the presentation of their work.

Title: “Quality and Amino Acids”…….It would be better to mention the type of quality, e.g., nutritional quality, protein quality, etc.

Line 11-14…….“To explore the effect of………….chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS)”….Revise the line….First, you need to mention a general problem and then the objective of the study. You should split this big line.

The abstract is not attractive. You need to highlight the key results. Revise…..“Through targeted amino acid analysis, 21 different amino acids…..” Vigna angularis is mentioned several times in the abstract…..You should mention the common name like red bean.

Line 39…..You should start the line like this Red bean (Vigna angularis)….is an important crop….Red bean (Vigna angularis)…..Earlier it was known as Xiaoshu and Chishu in China……In the rest lines, you should include common name (Red bean or adzuki bean) only and try to avoid the scientific name in the text.

Its economic value ranks first among all cereals. Can you present some data or references??

I think the Introduction part can be made more interesting with recent and relevant citations. You can take help from these articles https://doi.org/10.1016/j.scienta.2021.110075; https://doi.org/10.3390/land11040536

Line 68….LC-MS technology mentioned for the first time in Text…Therefore, elaborate LC-MS.

Line 147-151….Check spacing, typos…..10mg… 10 mg……0.1mol/ L HCl…0.1 mol/L HCl……20umol / mL…20 umol/mL…….25μL, added 90 %... 25 μL, added 90%......Check such typos throughout the article.

Table 1…..The values in the equation can be rounded to two decimal places. Follow the same in other Tables.

The preparation of extracts and LC-MS detection methods can be improved.

Line 165 and 172…..p<0.05….P<0.05…..Maintain similarity throughout the manuscript.

Include the version of Statistical Software used.

Figure 2…..Mention about letters a, b (shown above the bar) in the footnote. The X and Y-axis title…Content and Grouping…..Check the font and Use of Capital letters.

Line 357-386…..Producing correlation and heat map is vague. If both needs to be presented, explain in detail. This section is not described well, the use of both correlation techniques.

As there is noteworthy and voluminous data, I suggest the discussion can be elaborated with sub-sections. The discussion section must be enriched.

Line 455….According to P<0.05, Impact ≥0.001, five metabolic………Revise the statement.

Conclusion: What health products is suggested from the study as mentioned in the objective (Line 72)?

References: Improve the literature.

Overall, I feel the flow of writing and English needs a lot of improvement. If you take help from English Editing and other services, it will be better.
