Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

In this article " Effects of Chitosan on the AsA-GSH Cycle of Strawberry Seedlings Under High-Temperature and High-light Stress", author mentioned about the Effects of Chitosan on the AsA-GSH Cycle of Strawberry Seedlings Under High-Temperature and High-light Stress. Overall, based the data provided, it can be considered for publication in this journal. However, there are some issues that have to be fixed before publication;

Please specify the novelty, significance, technical merit of the study in a better way.

English is very poorly presented throughout the manuscript.

The abstract could be more specific, could be divided into four sections: scope, objectives, methods, results, and conclusions. Also, the abstract section should be completed with the study's results in numerical form.

The conclusion should also revised with same pattern.

What are the bottlenecks of this work, and how did you mitigate the impacts attributed to them?

What are the economic benefits of this work?

Make a table of comparison of this present work and other similar techniques from previously published a study in terms of operational parameters.

Why do you believe your research to be important?

Results and discussions should be clear compared with the previous study and shown in the figures. Afterwards, please give a critical analysis of its technical feasibility and applicability for upscaling this process.

Author generall shown the results upto 8 hours, However in my opinion should be continued untill the graph declines.

Author mentioned Figure 1 on page 11. is it correct?

Author Response

Dear Reviewers:

Thank you for your letter and for the reviewers’ comments concerning our manuscript entitled “ Effects of Chitosan on the AsA-GSH Cycle of Strawberry Seedlings Under High-Temperature and High-light Stress” . Those comments are all valuable and very helpful for revising and improving our paper, as well as the important guiding significance to our researches. We have studied comments carefully and have made correction which we hope meet with approval. Revised portion are marked in red in the paper.

Response to comment: (Please specify the novelty, significance, technical merit of the study in a better way.)

Response:We have made correction according to the Reviewer’s comments.

Response to comment: (English is very poorly presented throughout the manuscript)

Response:Thank you very much for your comments.I will try my best to modify the inappropriate expressions.

Response to comment: (The abstract could be more specific, could be divided into four sections: scope, objectives, methods, results, and conclusions. Also, the abstract section should be completed with the study's results in numerical form. The conclusion should also revised with same pattern.)

Response: Thank you very much for your comments. I have tried my best to revise the abstract and conclusions according to your comments

Response to comment: (What are the bottlenecks of this work, and how did you mitigate the impacts attributed to them?)

Response: The bottleneck encountered in this work is that it is difficult to find the determination method of some indicators, which is solved by the purchase of company kits.

Response to comment: (What are the economic benefits of this work?)

Response: In my opinion, the economic benefit of this study is that CTS is an inexhaustible renewable resource, and the price is relatively low. To explore whether chitosan has beneficial effects on strawberry seedlings under high-temperature and high-light stress, so as to alleviate the damage of high-temperature and high-light on strawberry seedlings and provide theoretical basis for actual production.

Response to comment: (Why do you believe your research to be important?)

Response: Hig-temperature and high-light stress are the main stress in the process of strawberry seedling raising and cultivation in summer. The quality of strawberry seedlings directly affects the yield and quality of strawberry, and explores whether chitosan has beneficial effects on strawberry seedlings under high-temperature and high-light stress, so as to alleviate the damage of high-temperature and high-light on strawberry seedlings and improve the seedling quality. Therefore, I think my experiment is important

Response to comment: (Results and discussions should be clear compared with the previous study and shown in the figures. Afterwards, please give a critical analysis of its technical feasibility and applicability for upscaling this process.)

Response:We have made correction according to the Reviewer’s comments.

Response to comment: (Author generall shown the results upto 8 hours, However in my opinion should be continued untill the graph declines.)

Response:I very much support your point of view. We are prepared to extend the duration of coercion and conduct more in-depth research.

Response to comment: (Author mentioned Figure 1 on page 11. is it correct?)

Response:We have made correction according to the Reviewer’s comments.

Once again, thank you very much for your comments and suggestions.

Reviewer 2 Report

Dear Authors

Abstract line 15-17 is not really necessary; what did you measure? Instead, you can focus more on your finding.

3 times word of increase in one sentence: line 18-19 abstract. Please write the results more specifically.

Abstract: please describe the light and temperature stress application.

What was the control treatment? (write in the abstract). I found it in methods.

Write (P <0.05) in statistics (2.3).

What does lines 161-162 mean? stress duration was, the more significant the difference was.

Line 158 and 159 have the same meaning: with increased duration of high---- sharply after 0.5 h of stress treatment but decreased slowly after 1-8 h

Line 172: H2O treatment: H2O is not a treatment; it s a control. and decreased what?

line 158 and 172 are just two examples of result presentation problems. Please rewrite and improve the results part.

Line 282: Who is the other? Write the author's name and reference number.

Line 327: It's better to use non-CTS treatment instead of H2O treatment, which means using CTS was effective and improved the stress conditions.

In general, the experiment and topic are interesting, Just before publishing needs an edition in results and discussion. Please rewrite the result.

Best Regards.

The authors have drafted the manuscript with a well-explained introduction and objectives. The methodology is reproducible and the results and discussions are critically elucidated.

However, I would suggest a few minor points be corrected in the manuscript for its improvement.

Please, refer to the attached pdf file with the comments.

Thank you

Reviewer 4 Report

- I consider the manuscript shows interesting data results about the effects of Chitosan on strawberry seedlings.

In this study authors measured chlorophyll content, membrane peroxidation, reactive oxygen species content, anti-oxidant enzyme content, AsA-GSH cycle activity and ‘other related indicators’ but only use AsA-GSH in the title, why?. If you consider that the most interesting finding is AsA-GSH content results use that title but otherwise, a new title could be used as…’Chitosan reduces damages of Strawberry seedlings under high temperature and high-light stress’

In order to clarify concepts, I recommend using shorter sentences in the abstract.

On the other hand, you should follow the same order in 'measured' or ‘m and m’ and 'results' in the way they are all named (if the reader checks, they don't match). I recommend reorganize these paragraphs.

In the abstract for instance, authors named:

A)     measured

1.chlorophyll content

2.membrane peroxidation

3.reactive oxygen species content

4.antioxidant enzyme content

5.AsA-GSH cycle activity

6.other related indicators

 and B)     results

1.increase the contents of antioxidants

2.increase the contents of osmotic adjustment substances

3.increase the activity of antioxidant enzymes activity

4.remove reactive oxygen species over time

5.reduce the damage of reactive oxygen species to photosynthetic organs and cell membranes,

6.improve the photosynthesis efficiency

When using a term for the first time, use the full name first, e.g. reduced glutathione with reduced ascorbic acid (AsA-GSH), net CO2 exchange (Pn), etc…
