Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

1-The introduction part is really weak and requires significant strengthening and rewriting with the assistance of additional references. I could not see the issiue and the work novelty. Here are some papers may be used to improve this section (https://doi.org/10.1038/sdata.2016.118; https://doi.org/10.3390/su141912040; https://doi.org/10.1016/j.ejrh.2023.101372)

2-Figure 3, please prepare a facinating flowchart

3- Further references are required in Methods

4- Results require further statistical analysis

5- Remove all figures in Discussion to be in Results section

6- Enhance the Discussion section by describing the relevance of the findings and connecting everything back to the research question.

7- The study limitations should be disccussed

8- add future directions in the conclusion

Extensive editing of English language required

General comments

This paper is generally well written and the fusion method for mapping irrigation area has certain innovation.

Specific comments

Abstract:

Line24: The first ‘and’ could be removed.

Introduction:

[1] line45: Please add existed irrigation area products or studies that scoping China. And give a summary to the methods used in these existed products.

[2] Remote ET products are often used in mapping studies, like corn, winter wheat. After irrigation in April, not only the wheat coverage changed significantly, but also the ET value was significantly different from the surrounding area. Please add more detailed methods review in paragraph2.

Method:

[1] Line170: Please give a brief introduction of the final fusion method in ‘decision level’.

[2] Please give a more detailed reason why NDVI was selected to generate irrigated map? Actually, MODIS GI (green index) and ET products were also widely used in mapping study.

Results:

[1] Line243: In this study, GMIA 5.0 and GFSAD ROIs results were treated as the target value to evaluate the classification results. However, the ground truth results were absent. It could hardly be contained that results represent the same accuracy to the ground truth. Please rewrite sentence and supplement ground truth validation if possible.

Discussion:

[1] Figure 12: It was repeated in page13 and 14, please check if it was mistypesetting. Also, please detail that the BY region that contains SWC and MYS in the figure annotation.

[2] Since a large number of remote sensing data products, including MRS and NDVI products were employed in this study, please supplement analysis of the uncertainty to the classification results brought by these products and method.

Because of the large number of nouns, please check the full text carefully for spelling and wording, and try to improve the conciseness of the sentence.
