Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

The paper addresses an interesting and timely research area, in many countries such research is not carried out despite the directives for example Water Framework Directive of the European Union.

Derived from a conceptual background section which did not clearly draw out the gaps the paper seeks to address, the conclusion section do offer very little additional value to the reader as it stands.
No clearly stated hypothesis - purpose.

The authors need to offer results here and discuss what they intended to find out in the introduction section (overall aim of the paper).

Please establish on research limitations and future research avenues.

Correction of pattern editing.

The authors need to better explain why the paper is relevant for academia (gaps in metodology - yes) (qallity sediments, environmental hazard - and how this study seeks to address them).

You refer to higher/lower concentrations, compare to other researchers. Refer to guidelines, legislative values.

Not even confirmation of the relationship, but the presentation of research results is a valuable basis for further research and comparative material for other researchers (citations).

Reviewer 2 Report

Yang et al. investigated an important research topic related to the levels and distribution of chlorinated paraffins in river and sea sediments in China. As the Authors highlighted in this study, it is important to monitor the presence and spread of these contaminants to assess both ecological and sanitary risk.

The study was well written, the method was adequately described, and the results were clearly reported.

I suggest some minor revisions.

Line 15: chromatograph

Line 20: concentrations

Line 38: have attracted

Lines 58-62: Are all concentrations expressed on dry weight?

Line 64: the assessment of the spatial and…

Line 76: CPs instead of POPs

Line 83: specify the abbreviation of the method used

Line 99: When?

Line 142: How did you correlate TOC and CPs? Pearson correlation?

Specify LOD and LOQ of CPs expressed on ng/g dw

Line 176: remove “which”

Lines 193-200: Add letters

Line 229: These values are

Lines 230: reported by Zeng et al.

Line 235: consistent with the results obtained by Zeng et al.

In the results and discussion section, a table including the levels found in this study and in the literature may facilitate the comparison. Can you find and add other international comparisons?
