Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

I send you some suggestions that can help improve your work. I hope they are helpful.

+ The introduction should be shorter and focus more on the problem of aridity in crop phenology.

+ Maybe, rewriting lines 101 and 102 as hypotheses helps to better understand the line of work.

+ Line 148 add units (Tx;...)

+ What do you mean by homogeneous database?

+ Lines 178 to 183 sound like introduction section

+ Line 184: What kind of kriging did you use? What did you base your choice on?

+ Line 134: What implications could a change in climatic conditions have on the crop phases? Are the phases shorter or longer?

+Line 352: How could you relate your work to the quality of the grapes?

+ You could add some measure of accuracy of fit (RMSE; Raju;bias...). You could also add a residual map to help understand the interpolation.

+ What would be the impact of your work on the management that producers make of their vineyards?

The manuscript authored by Carcia-Martin et al proved a detail study of aridity and its spatial relationship with grapevine growth stages. Such results will be interested by different discipline audiences, the paper can be accepted after a minor revision.  Here are suggestions for revision:

1. The introduction part should be refined and narrow down to the key scientific problem and aims of this study.

2. Why is IDM the most appropriate index in this study? more detail should be given in the Methods part.

The introduction is relevant and theory based. In the second chapter, the goals and objectives are formulated, the subject of the research is described, the theoretical and methodological methods of studying the spatial analysis of aridity are indicated, and the reasons for the relevance of the topic under consideration are explained. Result chapter reveals and analyzes the practical aspects of this research. The conclusion contains a lot of information of conclusions that correspond to the tasks. The recommendations and suggestions of the author of the paper are original and deserve more detailed consideration. The list of used literature is correctly compiled, it contains both fundamental works of distinguished scientists and publications of contemporary experts in scientific journals
