A) Acronym POI needs a definition.

Authors have to explain clearly the differences between urban functional areas and POI.

What relation between POI and functions ?

Why they speak (lines 42-43) about “early identification and division of urban functional areas” ?

Urban functional areas are established in the the zoning of the development plan?

B) Lines 285-287: “In conclusion, the distribution of single dominant functional areas in the central urban area of Chongqing conforms to the location conditions required by the construction  of various functions”.

What means?

C) Lines 375-377: “The accuracy of catering services, administration and public ser-375 vices, and financial insurance functional areas fluctuates significantly and are the decisive 376 factors affecting the accuracy of the model.”

Why?

D) The quality of Figures is low (e.g.: legibility of Figure 2;  legend in Figure 7)

E) References is totally local (China) whithout any international breath

General comments and suggestions:

  1. I highly appreciate the paper title! Usually, the authors have tentation to add in the title “X Place/Area, as case study”, however the analysis is focused on the research methodology! Correctly, the authors validate the research results by a specific case study represented by Chongqing City and its urban central area;
  2. Very useful comments on the advantages of the proposed research method in opposition with the traditional ones (survey, sensing images, statistical data etc);
  3. The paper is well structured, well written and well equipped with complementary graphics and tables;
  4. My main suggestion looks to the introduction. Please, reflect on the citation of other scholars on the topic, outside of the Chinese authors. The literature is very rich at the international scale, where you can identify some ideas expressed by different authors, on:

a)       Importance of POI analysis (see David Massimo & Francesco Ricci, 2021. "Popularity, novelty and relevance in point of interest recommendation: an experimental analysis," Information Technology & Tourism, 23, 4, 473-508.

b)      Explanation of relationships between AOI, ROI and POI (see: Rim, N.W. et al., Introducing Point-of-Interest as an alternative to Area-of-Interest for fixation duration analysis.

c)       Impact of Contextual Information on POI (see Hossein A. Rahmani, Mohammad Aliannejadi, Mitra Baratchi, Fabio Crestani. A Systematic Analysis on the Impact of Contextual Information on Point-of-Interest Recommendation, ACM Transactions on Information Systems, 40, Article 88, pp 1–35).

d)      Classification of POIs in Land use analysis (see: Filipe Rodrigues et al. (2012), Automatic Classification of Points-of-Interest for Land-use Analysis, GEOProcessing 2012 : The Fourth International Conference on Advanced Geographic Information Systems, Applications, and Services IARIA).

e)      Other authors.

Specific questions, suggestions, or technical corrections:

1)      Specify more clearly whether it’s about Metropolitan area of Chongqing city or the city itself. The analysis it’s clearly focused on the central area of the City. At the same time, define what the nine groups mean! Are they districts? Or partitions resulting from your previous research!

2)      Please correct the phrase from the 338 and 339 rows (“POI partitioning results were compared with 338 manual results to judge the correctness of the POI partitioning results”)

3)      I suggest adding the Legend of Figure 1 (c) what represents the green color: mountain area, green space managed by municipality, or green space around some rivers!

4)      Correct, inside of Figure 2, the box (2.2), replacing the “Urban functionn calculation model” with the “Urban functional calculation model”.

At the same figure, correct in the wright red box the word “functionl” with “functional”.

5)      Conclusion section should be improved adding one paragraph about the limitations of the study and another estimating the impact on the readers.

6)      Please, eliminate the thanks “to the satellite Remote Sensing data and open-source data platforms”. If it is necessary, you can thank, nominating the scholars who really helped you.

7)      Eliminate the second article from some formulations as: “the higher the….”, from 175 row.
