Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

This is an interesting report on ecosystem services in Jiangsu Province, China. Please consider adding the following points. â‘  It has been reported that ``the value of ecosystem services decreases as you move away from land.'' Please provide a brief supplementary explanation as to why. â‘¡The last article mentions the possibility of utilizing ecosystem services to protect and restore the ecological environment of water bodies, but what concrete methods can be considered? Please add a brief supplementary explanation.

Reviewer 2 Report

The present study is about the “Integrated Terrestrial and Marine Ecosystem Services Valuation and Result Variation Trends: A Case Study of Jiangsu Province, China”.

The manuscript has many errors, no coherence, no symmetry, and the ideas presented in the Ms have been often vague, not clearly explained and interpreted in a meaningful manner.  I have listed some of the these in the specific comments below, although the list is not exhaustive.

Specific comments:

Introduction-

Line-69 Correct the citation.

L-117-121- Clear objectives are needed.

L-122- Data? Or Data collection? It is better if it is separated.

L-124- The present area…….

Method- The methodology section should provide a clear and comprehensive explanation of the study design and data analysis methods. Thus, it needs profound revision and clarity. It should be clear that how the value of the ecosystem services were evaluated.

Results and Discussion- Write heading like this

The clarity is needed along with citation while describing the terrestrial and marine ecosystem services. There should be a balance from each unit (such as farmland, forests, grasslands, water, etc…..) of both ecosystem. It should be clear in the method, how the value of the ecosystem services were evaluated. The results and discussion part should be focused.

Conclusion- This part should be come from the findings of the study. Re-write, clarity and reduction is suggested. It must be concise and clear. This part is general. It needs to be improved.

Tables and figures should be clear and self presentable.

References- Need more recent references to be cited.

In light of these concerns, I strongly encourage you to revise the manuscript to address the issues mentioned above. A more detailed methodology section, with clear explanations of your study design and data analysis methods, results, discussion and conclusion will greatly improve the quality and rigor of your study. At present, the Ms is not prefect.
