In section 2.2 testing methods: "The lateral conscription ring holds the specimen securely inside to provide confining stress so that the extensive shape is not applied to the specimen ...".
It is worth mentioning that the shape and material of the identator is important, so it should be explained why it is used.
..... "The 20mm, 40mm, and 50mm loading plates were selected in the test to generate the base angles of 42°, 59°, and 71°, respectively...."
It should be clarified why these angles are used for the test.
In addition, in the sample preparation "punching shear sample mold" it does not mention other parameters to which the specimens should be subjected.
propagation of cracks is different at 20 mm plate

The authors present a study to investigate the hybrid failure of cemented paste backfill using numerical simulation and experiments. The followings are detailed comments.
- Figure 1: please show a scale bar to indicate the dimensions of the device. Also, a device photo used in the laboratory is highly suggested to be provided.
- Material and methods: please provide more details about the three kinds of samples.
- A comparison between experimental results and numerical simulations is suggested to provided to clarify the numerical simulation results.
- Please give the reasons for choosing three sets of specimens? Is there an engineering background for your study?
- Figure 6: please add a color bar, and give detailed information about them. Are they information distribution? or stress?
