Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

The coating prepared by PEO were mainly composed of anatase and rutile TiO2 phases, endowing Ti-6Al-4V excellent combination of bioactivity and hardness. Experimental design and results are relatively rational, some minor issues are as follows:

  1. The title of Figures should lay under the figures.
  2. The thinner coating with a hollow structure presented lower wear rate, meaning that lower voltage improved the compactness of coating, if there are critical thickness value imposing lower voltage? Why?
  3.  Main conclusions lack enough novelty more or less, many results are foreseeable. Please provide intrinsical mechanism of wear property.

  1. it seems that this work is based on the works of Refs. [23][33][34], the author need to show more information about the different between this work and the wkors from Refs. [23][33][34]
  2. in line 179, the amphous phase form with high cooling rate, is there any experiments to support it?
  3. Ra and Rz means what in table1?
  4. the figure captions need to be below each figures.
  5. in Ti6VAl4V Eli, it is better to explain what is Eli means in case to avoid misunderstanding.
  6. Figure 2 need to be having more information such as phases...
  7. The conclusion need to be more briefly.

Reviewer 4 Report

The manuscript entitled “metals-1733255-peer-review-v1” dealing with AM has been reviewed. The paper has been nicely written but needs significant improvement. Please follow my comments.

  1. Add brief quantitative results to the abstract
  2. Provide more discussion and fundamental relations for figure 3.
  3. Please refer to ASTM 52900 for correct terminology for AM.
  4. Add more detail to the conclusion.
  5. Additive manufacturing has many advantages over the conventional manufacturing method which can be highlighted in your paper. Please read the following article and add to the introduction to show the experimental application of additive manufacturing and the advantage of this process over conventional manufacturing like machining. “Additive manufacturing a powerful tool for the aerospace industry”
  6. Please update the introduction with the new publications in the field. Authors are encouraged to read and add the following new papers in the field.
  • High-cycle fatigue properties of curved-surface AlSi10Mg parts fabricated by powder bed fusion additive manufacturing
  • Proposal of design rules for improving the accuracy of selective laser melting (SLM) manufacturing using benchmarks parts
  • Fatigue life optimization for 17-4Ph steel produced by selective laser melting
  • Study on the impact behavior of arch micro-strut (ARCH) lattice structure by selective laser melting (SLM)
