In April, [Louisiana] ranked 51st and that is 51st in the nation for best and worst states for working moms and we also had the highest [maternal] mortality rate in the U.S. So this bill takes a step in the right direction towards improving the statistics by allowing school employees the opportunity of receiving leave for personal illness related to pregnancy, illness of an infant under one year of age, or for the required medical visit certified by a physician relating to infant or maternal health.
