The Highly Leukotoxic JP2 Genotype of Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans Is Present in the Population of the West African Island, Sal in Cape Verde: A Pilot Study
Abstract
:1. Introduction
2. Results
2.1. General Results
2.2. Carriers of the JP2 Genotype of A. actinomycetemcomitans
3. Discussion
- The prevalence of the JP2 genotype of A. actinomycetemcomitans is higher on the Cape Verdean island of Sal than in Europe;
- The prevalence of this JP2 genotype could not be associated with the presence of periodontitis or gingivitis, as measured by CPI, because of the relatively low sample size;
- These results warrant the initiation of a larger study on the prevalence of this potentially more harmful A. actinomycetemcomitans genotype.
