The manuscript is generally quite clear and well written, but there are a few sentences that should be revised and the Figures should be also improved, as listed in details in the following:

  • The sentence in lines 197-199 is not clear.
  • Line 227: The expression  "On the one hand" should be changed into "On one hand"
  • Line 295: The expression "it should mention"  should be "it should be mentioned"
  • Figures 3a, figure 4b and figure 6 include some text that is too small and cannot be read. Please, increase the size of the text.
  • Line 305: The expression "reserved crystal structure " is not clear. May be there is a typo. Please check.
  • Line 414: The expression "there are still some remain questions" is not correct. It should be "remaining questions".

Lines 197-199:“The difference in Fermi level between the catalytic center and the carrier determines the number and direction of charge transfer” has been changed into “The magnitude and direction of the charge transfer is driven by differences in the Fermi level of the catalytic center and the support.”

The review article concerns mechanisms of OER (oxygen evolution reaction) in PEMWE (polymer electrolyte membrane water electrolysis). It describes the methods to design efficient catalysts through surface modification, changing catalytic site coordination, and adjusting the electronic structure of reaction centers. It also focuses on catalysts with high activity and strong acid tolerance at high oxidation potentials for the proton-conducting polymer electrolysis membrane of water electrolysis, which has good characteristics for hydrogen fuel production.

The search for clean and highly efficient energy is vital in environmental pollution problems caused by carbon dioxide coming from energy production, which depends on coal and oil combustion.

The review article covers the essential issues of clean energy production and storage. It is well written and clearly describes the subject. It is suitable for publication in the current version.
