Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

  1. Please mark the location of JB in Figure 1.
  2. In Figure 4, please provide the surface roughness after profile filtering, which could present the surface texture more clearly.
  3. Please provide more details of the vibration test method.
  4. The analysis of impact forces on the sapphire endstone should be provided for the analysis of failure of the sapphire endstone.
  5. SEM images should be provided to analysis the crack and removal of sapphire in Figure 17.
  6. There are A-, C-, M-, R-plane, four planes of sapphire wafe, which may be used in this JB. A-, C-, M-, R-plane sapphire have different toughnesses to resist the impact load, referring to the articles "Huang, S.; Lin, J.; Wang, N.; Guo, B.; Jiang, F.; Wen, Q.; Lu, X. Fracture Behavior of Single-Crystal Sapphire in Different Crystal Orientations. Crystals 2021, 11, 930" and  "Ke Wang, Feng Jiang, Lan Yan, Xipeng Xu, Ningchang Wang, Xuming Zha, Xizhao Lu, Qiuling Wen. Study on mechanism of crack propagation of sapphire single crystals of four different orientations under impact load and static load. Ceramics International, 2019, 45(6): 7359-75".

Reviewer 2 Report

The article seems to be quite interesting. The paper presents some novelty. In order to publish this work, the authors should correct some shortcomings:

1. why in the introduction there are references to only 9 literature references ? Please expand the introduction and clearly state the novelty of this paper.

2. figure 18 contains unreadable data - please either enlarge it or enlarge the information in it - the same applies to figure 19.

3) In conclusions quantitative analysis of research should be presented. Please complete it.

Figure 10 and 11 must include an scale, and similar ones. Figure 5 must include some dimension or reference.

Conclusions are poorly written.

One can´t help but wonder why did you not discuss some Works about wear and monitoring, with some good approaches like Roughness prediction on laser polished surfaces Journal of Materials Processing Technology 212 (6), 1305-1313 which define application on bearings.

Paper is good, references are also too a few.
