Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

The manuscript ‘Influence of the weld joint position on the mechanical stress concentration in the construction of the Alternative Skid Car system’s skid chassis’ deals with the optimization of welding position in an automotive component.

The topic deals with the journal aims and appears attractive to the readers; on the other hand, the manuscript is not well organized. In the present form, it seems not a research article but, in my opinion, may be defined as communication article.

The abstract needs to be rewritten: the first part seems to be a cover letter; furthermore, it is too much informal writing. The same goes for the introduction paragraph. Moreover, the introduction did not provide sufficient background and did not include all relevant references which may be found in the literature.

Line 51: parameters? Or properties?

Table 1 needs to be changed. Why is the first line in bold? Titles of the columns are not present.

Line 64: Brdečko … what does it mean?

Line 132: (Walport et al., 2021). Is this a citation? Please, correct the citations in accordance with the template.

Line 150: ‘There are also welds in this area that connect the individual profiles.’ Where are the welds?

Line 161: What about the filler metal?

After the selection of the welding positions, did you perform further characterizations?

In the Data Availability Statement, you wrote: ‘No new data were created or analysed in this study’. What does it mean? Does it mean that the data presented were already published elsewhere?

The work must be revised before acceptance; the characterization must be enhanced as well as the literature introduction. For these reasons, I suggest revision before the publication.

Dear authors,

thank you very much for the work.

But i have some questions/remarks regarding the paper.

Where is the scientific new aspect in this work? In my oppinion this is only a application of commonly known knowledge. The used material is in terms of strength the most common steel. The design of the weld frame is not very special or has some features the are interesting and new.
The titel suggests that you evaluated a lot of different weld designs, but i cannot find any evaluation of those.

Furthermore, the nuber of literature is very limited. In case of the influence of the weldig position on the toughness there is a lot of literature available. Furthermore, to be in line with the state of the art you should include microstructural and property changes aoround the weld in your model.

Furthermore, for the desired aplication, the fatigue has to be considered and can be assest with FEM Simulations as well.

The paper can only be considered for publication with a complete overwork and the addittion of a lot mor results, which can not be done within some weeks.

Best regards

Round 2

Reviewer 1 Report

Dear authors, thank you for performing the revisions. The manuscript was deeply improved. The introduction was improved too, as the results; all suggestions have been followed. In my opinion, the manuscript is now suitable for publication.

Best regards
