The authors offer a comprehensive overview of diffraction gratings. They begin by making a historical excursus and arrive at describing the most advanced manufacturing technologies. The authors report numerous techniques, and this manuscript can offer an important starting point for the readers who face the sector for the first time since they can find many innovative and varied technological examples in this article.

I believe the paper's clarity would significantly improve if the authors included a summary table that repeats the described strategies associated with the references in the manuscript. Moreover, I believe that a further improvement could derive from a better organization of the figures that at the moment appear too fragmented and with details that are difficult to read. So, I invite the authors to change the organization of the figures to make the paper more impactful.

The revised manuscript is much better.

Only one comment about the title. Since much of the manuscript is talking about gratings with surface structures, basically no sinusodial index modulation, a more specific title without generally saying "diffractive grating" will actually help readers find the paper they really need.
