Reviewer 2 Report

The author carried out a diamond micro-planing experiment on an oxygen-free copper workpiece on a homemade three-axis machine tool, and the surface topography of the planing surface was measured by a white light interferometer and the power spectral density of the surface topography was analyzed, and the spatial wavelength components of the surface topography were extracted.

The outcomes of the experiment look interesting, however, there are some minor comments:

1. I wonder about the accuracy of measurements, the authors have to justify that their meaured values are accurate and not biased.

2.  the authors should be consistent in terms of the data they presented, i.e., they should follow justified number of significant digits.

3. Resolution and size of figure 7 must be improved

4. I suggest that the authors refer to https://en.x-mol.com/paper/article/1547450773919657984 to enrich the introduction section

Author Response

Point 1: I wonder about the accuracy of measurements, the authors have to justify that their meaured values are accurate and not biased.

Response 1: In fact, we choose two kinds of sensors for measurement, one is the non-contact sensor introduced in this paper, and the other is the contact sensor CT6002 of CERTO series of Heidenhain. The sampling frequencies of the two sensors differ greatly, but the measured results are consistent.

Point 2: the authors should be consistent in terms of the data they presented, i.e., they should follow justified number of significant digits.

Response 2: The significant digits of the same type of data have been modified and unified.

Point 3: Resolution and size of figure 7 must be improved.

Response 3: Resolution and size of figure 7 have been modified.

Point 4: I suggest that the authors refer to https://en.x-mol.com/paper/article/1547450773919657984 to enrich the introduction section.

Response 4: We have made corresponding modifications according to the article.

Reviewer 3 Report

Review of the article:

Analysis of Surface Profile Error of Ultra-Precision DiamondPlaning Based on Power Spectral Density

The article describes an experiment in which the authors address the accuracy of a surface machined with ultra-precision methods. The authors looked for factors affecting the "ripple" on the machined surface.

The presented results can be used in a practical way.

The conclusions are formulated in a concise and informative manner.

The article contains 16 literature items that have been used in the text.

I don't feel qualified to judge about the English language and style.

The presentation style and format of the article are okey. The figures are appropriate and reflect the content of the article. The article is written in a clear manner.

I accept the article in present form.

Author Response

The authors have further revised the article, thank you!

Title: Analysis of Surface Profile Error of Ultra-Precision Diamond Planing Based on Power Spectral Density

Authors: Jianhua Yao , Ziqiang Yin * , Yawen Guo

Comments: This work requires a slight correction since the work done is fine but needs to express the scientific outcome of the proposed work. Authors are required to address these comments for improvement of the paper.

1.       Authors are required to give a novelty statement for their research.

2.       Better authors should explain what the range of error observed in practical and theoretical error percentage of the proposed work comparison table must need with recently reported works, and how the proposed technique is best compares to other techniques. (Include table compare with recent works)

3.       Figure 7.  x-axis label to be corrected in English

4.       After line 301, authors must include a paragraph that explains the scientific result of the proposed work and how it will help to lower the percentage of practical and theoretical error.

5.       A list of abbreviations can be included in the last paragraph.
