Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

1- Even though the paper represents an interest application of Hermite-Gaussian Laser Beams but the authors written the masuscript with a poor English, so the reader can be confused. I attached some corrections.

2- In fact, the Gaussian high power laser beams has been mentioned before to be affected by other parameters like self-phase modulation and band width for ultrafast beams, so that I suggest to refer to these points in the introductions with mentioning to the following references :

A- Tawfik, Walid "Reaching white-light radiation source of ultrafast laser pulses with tunable peak power using nonlinear self-phase modulation in neon gas." Radiation Physics and Chemistry 125 (2016): 165-170.

B- Tawfik, Walid "High-power table-top white-light few-cycle laser generator." Ukr. J. Phys. Opt 16.3 (2015): 111.

3- The authors did not mention many experimental details.

4- The error bars showed be included in figure 2.

The written masuscript in a poor English but can be corrected.

Author Response

Dear reviewer:

Thank you very much for your helpful comments to our manuscript " High-Power High-purity HG0n Hermite-Gaussian Laser Beams Generation in Cascaded Large Aspect Ratio Slabs" (Manuscript ID: applsci-2624216). We replied to the comments from you and made corresponding revisions to the manuscript in which the modified section has been highlighted in yellow.

The following are the responses to the comments raised by you one by one:

  1. Even though the paper represents an interest application of Hermite-Gaussian Laser Beams but the authors written the manuscript with a poor English, so the reader can be confused. I attached some corrections.

Response: Thank you very much for your corrections to our manuscript, and we have corrected some of the English expression of the manuscript.

  1. In fact, the Gaussian high power laser beams have been mentioned before to be affected by other parameters like self-phase modulation and band width for ultrafast beams, so that I suggest to refer to these points in the introductions with mentioning to the following references:

A- Tawfik, Walid "Reaching white-light radiation source of ultrafast laser pulses with tunable peak power using nonlinear self-phase modulation in neon gas." Radiation Physics and Chemistry 125 (2016): 165-170.

B- Tawfik, Walid "High-power table-top white-light few-cycle laser generator." Ukr. J. Phys. Opt. 16.3 (2015): 111.

Response: This is a very good suggestion. We have added the discussion on future work in the revised manuscript and cited the two references you suggested here. Please refer to pages 9-10, lines 293-296 of the new manuscript.

  1. The authors did not mention many experimental details.

Response: Thanks for your suggestion. More experimental details have been added to our revised manuscript, including the more detailed description of the pump source (page 4, lines 146-150) and the AO Q-switch (page 4, lines 157-158), the distances between various optical components in the resonator (page 4, lines 158-161) have been added, the theoretical calculation for selecting the diameters of the apertures (pages 4-5, lines 168-191), the detailed description of the amplification module (page 7, lines 229-234), and the future work is also mentioned in the end of the manuscript (pages 9-10, lines 286-298).

  1. The error bars should be included in Figure 2.

Response: Figure 2 in the manuscript shows the measurement of beam quality factors M2 of the HG09 mode, which is directly provided by the beam quality analyzer. The interface of the beam quality analyzer is shown in the following figure. The measured results are fully aligned with the requirements of the ISO 11146 standard, where the error bars are not involved at this time. Actually, the beam size of each location is measured by CMOS camera, which is a time integrated result. Accordingly, the error bars are not included in Figure 2.

This revised manuscript has also made revisions to some details in the initial draft.

The above are our responses to your comments. We look forward to further review.

Sincerely,

Tianli Yang, Jing Yang

Reviewer 2 Report

In the paper of Tianli Yang, Jing Yang, Wangzhe Zhou, Xuepeng Li, Yinan Zhou, Zongzhe Zhang and Xiaojun Wang «High Power High-purity HG0n Hermite-Gaussian Laser Beams Generation in Cascaded Large Aspect Ratio Slabs» one-dimensional Gaussian laser beams of high purity with orders from 1 to 9 are obtained by controlling the gain and loss coefficients of Gaussian modes of different orders. Gaussian beams are generated by adjusting the pump distribution, intracavity apertures, and output coupler tilt angle.

The topic of the article is of interest to the readers of the journal. It is difficult for me to judge the novelty of the results obtained. At the same time, I did not find something in the article that would contradict the laws of nature. Taking into account the practical importance of the article, I believe that the article can be published.

Taking into account the practical importance of the article, I believe that the article can be published.

Response: Thank you very much for your approval of our manuscript. In the revised manuscript, our work is novel since we propose and demonstrate an alternative method for generating and power scaling high-power high-purity one-dimensional HG0n laser beam in cascaded large aspect ratio slabs, which is different from traditional approaches. And based on this method, HG0n laser beams with orders 1 to 9 (HG01 to HG09) are obtained, and the average powers are around 5 W. Actually, to the best of our knowledge, the results of our paper obtained are the highest average and peak powers for nanosecond pulse HG0n laser beams with continuously adjustable order compared to other published material.

This revised manuscript has also made revisions to some details in the initial draft.

The above is our responses to your comments. We look forward to further review.

Sincerely,

Author Response

Dear reviewer:

Thank you very much for your helpful comments to our manuscript " High-Power High-purity HG0n Hermite-Gaussian Laser Beams Generation in Cascaded Large Aspect Ratio Slabs" (Manuscript ID: applsci-2624216). We replied to the comments from you and made corresponding revisions to the manuscript in which the modified section has been highlighted in yellow.

The following are the responses to the comments raised by you one by one:

  1. The authors should consider improving the presentation of results and, if feasible, include a picture illustrating the real system, which would enhance the clarity of their methodology.

Response: This is a very good suggestion. The revised manuscript has added a picture to display the real laser system, as shown in Figure 4(b) (page 7, line 244-246).

  1. Specifically, figures 2, 6, and 7 would benefit from being split into two separate figures, avoiding the inclusion of one graph within another for better visualization and understanding.

Response: Thank you very much for your suggestion. For Figure 6, it is a good idea to split it into two separate figures, and we do that. The two separate figures are shown in Figure 6(a) and (b) (page 9, lines 273-275). But in order to keep our manuscript concise and informative, the inserts in Figures 2 and 7 are kept. We future improved the resolution of these two figures, and the reader can easily obtain the details of our experimental results.

This revised manuscript has also made revisions to some details in the initial draft.

The above are our responses to your comments. We look forward to further review.

Sincerely,

Tianli Yang, Jing Yang
