Optimization of Chlorogenic Acid in Ethanol Extracts from Elderberry Flowers (Sambucus nigra L.) under Different Conditions: Response Surface Methodology
Round 1
Reviewer 1 Report
Dear authors,
After the review process, I have several comments: more numerical data should be included in the abstract; each material and Methods section should have references; the paper has a major lack of relevant data regarding the biological effects of chlorogenic acid; you should include in introduction/discussions, as the future valorization of the research, more comments related to correlations between antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities in vitro/in vivo of products that contain chlorogenic acid.
Best regards!
Author Response
Thank you for the received reviews. We supplemented our paper in accordance with the selected suggestions of the reviewers. Below is our response to the reviewers' suggestions:
- we supplemented the introduction by adding information about the health aspects of chlorogenic acid - as far as it was related to the main topic of the paper;
- we supplemented the abstract with selected numerical values;
- where it was possible, in the "materials and methods" section, we supplemented the literature.

the manuscript is quite interesting for the readers. several comments and suggestions are addressed to improve the quality the manuscript
1. suggestion of the title is "Optimization of chlorogenic acid in ethanol extracts of from elderberry flowers (Sambucus nigra L.) under different conditions: Response Surface Methodology"
2. is the historical data used for design of experiment ??
3. please combine Figure 4,6 and 9
4. please use 3d response, it will help the readers to understand
5. please rewrite the conclusion, it should be in 1 paragraph
6. where is ANOVA table?
Author Response
Thank you for the received reviews. We supplemented our paper in accordance with the selected suggestions of the reviewers. Below is our response to the reviewers' suggestions:
- as suggested by the reviewer, we changed the title of the paper;
- we did not use historical data at paper, so we did not refer to this type of data;
- we combined all Pareto diagrams as one figure;
- we gave an exemplary figure of the RSM model in 3D;
- due to several aspects of the paper, we decided to leave the conclusions in their current form for better clarity;
- due to the specificity of RSM and for better clarity of the paper, we decided not to add the ANOVA table.
