Comments and Suggestions for Authors

The authors present the point cloud measurement of the rubber tread dimension based on 2 on the RGB depth camera. The topic is certainly compelling and is of great use to several sectors of industry. This approach certainly is an interesting one and warrants publication after some revisions are made to the manuscript. The structure of the manuscript is not correct. A scientific article should consist of the literature review, theoretical background of the method, experimental results, results discussion, and conclusions.

Below you can find my comments about the manuscript.

- The novelty of the reviewed paper is not clearly presented. The current existing problems and research gaps must be more clarified. What are new contributions to the scientific community? Optical measurements of geometric quantities are widely known and used.

- The abstract should highlight the most important features of the paper.

- Keywords should not be abbreviations (acronyms), e.g. “RGB-D; NSGA-II; RANSAC'.

- There is no information in the article about (e.g. location, time, equipment, data collection, data analysis, validation, etc.)

- The paper lacks detailed explanations regarding the preprocessing of point-cloud data and the registration algorithm. Emphasising these crucial steps is necessary to enhance understanding of the research process and increase the credibility of the results.

- It is not clear how the results of this process were validated.

- The big disadvantage of the article is the lack of a conclusion. I suggest describe the most important achievements of the article and the limitations of the proposed method. Information about future research plans can be added.

- Has the presented measurement method been compared with commercial devices?

I recommend that the authors analyze and improve the paper before considering it for more evaluation. Revisions are necessary to enhance the paper's quality and ensure its readiness for publication.

Comments and Suggestions for Authors

The topic is interesting in a scientific sense, although it has potential for application in art and digitalization of cultural heritage and inspection of the accuracy of the obtained 3D models. However, the same can be applied in mechanical engineering. Point cloud measurements are increasingly being applied in various fields. In the specific research, the measurement accuracy was raised to a higher level by the use of an RGB camera, but also by using different algorithms for image segmentation. The Introduction must be expanded with current literature in the field, including journal articles. Avoid writing in the first person. Scientific papers are written in the passive voice. It's great that the camera parameters are given in a table. Why was this specific dimension of the chessboard used for calibration? In Figure 4 it must be indicated what each color of the detected features represents. With the Genetic Algorithm block diagram, explain what Y and N are. Although, the entire block diagram needs to be explained in detail. A general explanation is given in the paragraph above the diagram. Please correct this. In Figure 8, explain what is shown in the right image and what is shown in the left image. What exactly are noise points in a point cloud? Why tread is divided into five equal parts? Why not more or less? Expand the Discussion. The paper lacks a Conclusion. Please correct that.
