Dear Authors,

 

I positively assess your article and your approach in the subject of the modification of diamonds. However, I have a few issues with it and would like them clarified before recommending it for publication.

My biggest concern is the re-usage of data split among this and several cited publications of the overlapping authors. I did not quite understand whether or not the conductivity data was measured at all for the sake of this work or simply taken and rearranged from the reference 11. In the entirely possible case that I misunderstood it, Kindly clarify this both in the text (since a reader may have the same problem) and here.
The other concerns are as follows:

  1. Lines 62-63: What are the given temperature values relate to? The temperature of what exactly? I suspect the temperature of a substrate but please clarify. Also, how was it measured?
  2. Could not the authors provide a more precise information of the applied doses? If not, why?
  3. Why were two different wavelength used for Raman measurements?
  4. Lines 132-133: Increase in what surface?
  5. More details on the procedures should be provided. Directing a reader to a different article for such details. Conductivity measurements and diamond syntheses are the main issues here.
  6. Do the authors have required permissions to re-use (as I understand it) the data from the reference 11 concerning conductivity measurements? If so, at least provide the conditions of the measurements in the Materials and Methods section.

This manuscript describes the work of high fluence of Ar and C ions irradiation on polycrystalline diamond film. The morphology, resistivity at different growth temperatures were studied using SEM, AFM, SRIM code, resistivity measurement and Raman scattering.

1. This work is an extended study of authors’ previous researches published on J surface investigation: X-ray, synchrotron and neutron techniques in 2015, 2017 and 2019, also in vacuum in 2017 and in Nuclear Instrument and Methods B in 2017. Therefore, the most important research results were published and only the supplement data is reported in this paper. The authors should clarify the new result and make a comparison to the previous studies.

2. In Fig. 5, on the temperature effect on the conductivity with the irradiation temperature and anneal temperature dependent, the condition of anneal temperature should be illustrated in more detail, for example, the sample conditions before annealing (irradiation time and temperature) and annealing time.

3. In addition, it was assumed that irradiation with carbon ions will make it possible to implement both modes of diamond processing, both with the formation of a graphitized layer and with an increase in the diamond surface. How these two layers can go together with? Is the graphite on the top of diamond or addition diamond surface on the top of graphite or mixed together?     

4. Also in Fig. 5, the Om should be Ohm in Y-axis.
