Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

·        The theme of the review is good, interesting .I would like to recommend few changes

·        Its worth reducing the text and instead represent either in figures, schemaitc or tables

·        Include few tables listing the deposition conditions, substrate, mode of deposition ,additives etc for Ni and Cr with some physical characterisation data (collected from literature).

·        Figure : Explain what does qc, ic, Tc mean in the figure.

·        Its worth to include cost per 1L of the electrolytes prepared against each coating to show the economic difference despite technical ones.

Title: ADVANCES ON Cr AND Ni ELECTRODEPOSITION FOR INDUSTRIAL APPLICATIONS – A REVIEW

On behalf of all co-authors, I would like to thank you and the reviewers for the valuable comments on our manuscript “ADVANCES ON Cr AND Ni ELECTRODEPOSITION FOR INDUSTRIAL APPLICATIONS – A REVIEW” Ref: Coatings-1959223. We did our best to implement the reviewers’ comments in the revised version of the manuscript and hope that the additional information renders our manuscript suitable for publication in Coatings. The changes are marked in color in the revised manuscript.

Here are point-to-point replies to the raised comments from the editor and reviewers:

Response to Reviewer 1

The theme of the review is good, interesting. I would like to recommend few changes.

We would like to thank reviewer #1 for his/her detailed comments on our work, which certainly helped us with improving the quality of our manuscript.

Specific comments are listed below.

Comments 1-1. Its worth reducing the text and instead represent either in figures, schematic or tables.

Answer: Thanks for your comment. Some redundant comments have been removed from the updated manuscript.

Comment 1-2: Include few tables listing the deposition conditions, substrate, mode of deposition, additives etc for Ni and Cr with some physical characterisation data (collected from literature).

Answer: Thanks for this comment. As suggested, a sub-topic titled “Application of Cr, Ni and their alloy coatings” has been included in the updated manuscript. In this sub-topic, a table which gives the applications of these coatings and comparison of some factors such as coatings deposition mode/deposition conditions, substrate, additives used in relation to their physical characteristics was presented.

Comment 1-3: Figure 8: Explain what does qc, ic, Tc mean in the figure.

Answer: Thanks for pointing this out. These parameters have been defined in page 14 of the revised manuscript.

Comment 1-4: Its worth to include cost per 1L of the electrolytes prepared against each coating to show the economic difference despite technical ones.

Answer: Thanks for your comment. We agree with the reviewer that this analogy is worth looking at. However, it is quite difficult to include the cost per 1L of the electrolyte prepared against each coating due to the fact that the authors whose works were referenced in this manuscript did not include such information in their works.

Reviewer 2 Report

This is very well studied subject. In order to complete the review, application of nickel and chromium electrodeposits, especially usual applications such as corrosion resistant coatings and tribological applications can be discussed in details and different types of electrodeposited coatings such as multilayers and also chromium-protected nickel plates must be discussed.

I suggest authors add a table and compare nickel, chromium and nickel-chromium alloy with other types of similar electrodeposits such as different binary nickel alloys such as nickel-cobalt or nickel-iron or nickel-tungsten or nickel-zinc, etc. Some missed papers to be compared are: 10.48442/IMIST.PRSM/jasi-v9i1-3.27066 , 10.3390/coatings12060774 , 10.1134/S2070205118060187 , 10.1016/j.ijhydene.2022.08.291 , 10.1080/09603123.2019.1631263 , 10.3390/met12071194 , 10.1016/j.surfcoat.2019.04.079 , 10.3103/S1068375521040050 , 10.1016/j.electacta.2022.140054 , 10.1007/s12666-017-1175-x ,

Answer: Thanks for this comment. A table which gives a summary of previous studies of different binary alloys of Cr and/or Ni coatings, and their comparison was presented in the revised manuscript (under the newly introduced sub-topic “application of Cr, Ni and their alloy coatings”). Finally, we would like to thank the reviewer #2 for the suggested references which was helpful in improving the work.

Reviewer 3 Report

The review article consists of an extensive literature review for Cr and Ni electrodeposition and includes comprehensive information.

It would be appropriate to publish it with linguistic and stylistic corrections.
