Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

The idea to include the combinability among different periods of flows looks original and interesting in order to reduce bottlenecks. The results showed the proposed algorithm outperforms other widely-used algorithms.

Overall, English quality is high.

The introduction section provides a well-detailed problem description and clearly states the goal of the paper and how to achieve it.

The related work section clearly contextualizes the study among other similar contributions highlighting the pros and cons of them and the goals for routing problems. This section provides a clear background to the readers.

The system model section is clear and the use of the motivation example helps the reader understand the model. The mathematical formulations look sound and the figures are of good quality and helpful.

In conclusion, please revise the syntax in lines 467 and 468.

Overall, the paper is very good.

Reviewer 2 Report

In this paper, the authors explore the combinability among different periods of flows, which can measure the ability of them to share bandwidth without conflict. Then, they propose a novel period-aware routing algorithm to reduce the bottleneck of scheduling, thus more flows can be accommodated. The experiment results show that the success rate of scheduling is significantly improved compared to the shortest path routing and load-balanced routing. The paper is technically sound and well organized. However, the following concerns need to be addressed.

  1. The related work is not updated. Please include some latest references published in the last 3 to 5 years.
  2. Write all the notations and their explanations in a tabular form in the system model section.
  3. Please explain how do you define the complexity of the algorithms? And what is the complexity of Algorithm 1, 2, 3, and 4?
  4. Line#321, Please check the spelling while referring to Equation 16. What is meant by Esq?
  5. Check reference#31, it is referred incorrectly. Is it a journal, conference, or thesis? Then, follow the correct format of the electronics MDPI journal.
  6. Reference#12, what is the name of the journal? Page numbers? Volume and issue?
  7. Check reference#7. It is not according to the electronics mdpi standard format.
