Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

The presented manuscript studies the formation maintenance problem under general topology patterns. The novelty resides in making the method more robust, in other words, less sensitive to parameter variations. The paper is relatively well-written and the method has merit. However, there are some small issues that should be addressed before accepting for publication in electronics.

The proposed control law (17a) resembles a PID. It is composed of a PD controller and an observer (same role as the integral parts). The authors should further analyse the connection between the proposed control law and a PID controller. See for example the following reference

https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S1270963818307971

Theorem 1 and its proof need some rewriting. Some assumptions like that the disturbance tends to constants are used in the proof without writing it in the theorem.

Reviewer 3 Report

- It is recommended that the authors state the difficulties involved in using this approach in this context.

- It is recommended that the main contribution of the study should be summarized in the introduction part to show the main contribution.

- Is the physical constraint of the control system considered in the study? If not, it is recommended that the authors should explain and discuss about it for experimental test

- I think that the quantitative analysis of the relative comparison results are needed for technical analysis and clear understanding of the results.

- Some further research topics could be discussed in the conclusion. Moreover, some relevant recent publications can be referred to give readers an up-to-date picture.

Round 2

Reviewer 2 Report

The revision has been successfully addressed all the concerns raised from the initial manuscript, which are ready to be published in this journal. Congratulations!

Reviewer 3 Report

The authors revised the manuscript reasonably based on reviewer's comments.
