Reviewer 2 Report

I have reviewed the manuscript and found few issues in it:

1. Paper is lack of novelty and comparison with punlished papers in literature which need to be in details.

2. most of the design, rsults such as raditation pattern,s11 and gain which direct copy from cst or other simulater.

3. For the mutual coupling reduction, no novelty, only consider adding the distance between elements which is common knowledge.

Please highlight the novelty of the proposed design.

The design is not compared with reported works

Round 2

Reviewer 2 Report

It address all the concerns and now can be accepted

This manuscript is a resubmission of an earlier submission. The following is a list of the peer review reports and author responses from that submission.

Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

This paper designed a new AESA antenna to realize the super directivity by using an unconventional 3D phased array (PA) antenna concept based on directional Yagi-Uda elements. The research is very interesting and the results are of great value. Some comments are as follow:

1, section 2 should be further simplified because the typical phase array is well known to the readers.

2, Figs. 2, 3, 4, and 5 should be clearly presented. The picture quality directly exported from CST is very bad.

3, Table 1, does the antenna have a requirement of the operating frequency band width or it is just a single frequency? Why choosing a element of 4*4, it has a dimension limit?

4, There are two "Table 1" at pages 5 and 6.

5, For the tables such as 1 and 2, and some figures such as Fig.3, the authors should give much more designing details and deep analysis.

6, In the paper, the authors always emphasize it is a super directive antenna, however I can't clearly find out the design and analysis about the super directivity.

7, In Fig.7, there are many lines in the Fig.7b, it made me confused. Curves have no any labels and cannot be distinguished.

8, The same thing mentioned in question 7 also happens in Fig.8, 9 and 11. The figures are too bad.

Reviewer 2 Report

The manuscript is so badly written the reader cannot catch and understand the proposed idea. The paper understanding is very hard and a number of points have to be reviewed. This manuscript also suffers from many technical, spelling and grammar errors. It seems that authors did not prepare this work adequately; they even didn't check the state of the final text.

1) The sections 2,3,4 are very poor and they should be rewritten. The authors do not provide a clear background about the proposed method. In fact, the mathematical formulation has been arranged in a confused way, it is not at all effective as well as it is lacking in clarity. As a result, the whole mathematical formulation and the proposed method have to be rewritten with the aim to solve these drawbacks. However, also the design of both the single radiating element and the whole array are extremely confused and unclear.

3) The section “Discussion” is too much poor, and it should be widely extended. In the present form it is totally useless.

4) The authors should provide the comparison between the simulation results and the experimental ones. Moreover, they have to provide plots regarding the calculated realized gain as well as the total efficiency.

5) Figure 6 and figure 8 were never mentioned in the manuscript.

6) English language has to be improved, as some sentences are awkward, and some grammatical errors can be found within the paper. Some sentences have to be reformulated and a grammar and usage of structures need revision.

So, my resume is that this manuscript, at least in its current form, cannot be published on Electronics or even revised, because of too many drawbacks that I revealed above.

Reviewer 4 Report

In my opinion Section 4 is rather poor. The authors could elaborate more on the potential super-directive results as well as if this construction can be adopted in high carrier frequencies (e.g. 28 Ghz)

Round 2

Reviewer 1 Report

Author Response

Dear reviewer,

Actually no response is needed, since no comments were required (for some reasons the application forced us to response as a prerequisite to the paper uploading).

Thanks a lot

Reviewer 2 Report

Also in the revised form, the manuscript remains badly written and the reader cannot catch and understand the proposed idea. The authors did not well understand the reviewer suggestions and the revisions made by them have only increased the intelligibility of the paper in a negligible way. I repeat that the paper understanding is very hard and a number of points have to be reviewed. This manuscript also suffers from many technical errors.

The sections 2,3,4 are very poor and they should be rewritten. Just to make a simple example, in the mathematical model the variables elevation al and azimuth az as well as el0 and az0 have to be replaced with the corresponding angles.  Moreover, figure 1 has to be updated by considering this new angles and report the scanned direction, too.

The section “Discussion” is too much poor, and it should be widely extended. In the present form it is totally useless.

It is not well clear the comparison between the simulation results and the experimental ones. In addition to the directivity, the authors have to provide plots regarding the calculated realized gain as well as the total efficiency.

So, my resume is that this manuscript cannot be published on Electronics because of too many drawbacks that I revealed above.
