Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

The authors have designed a tunable microstrip bandpass filter. Two prototypes of the deigned filters are fabricated and measured, which have verified the simulations and analyses results. The paper is well written; however, the following minor modifications should be considered in the manuscript.

  • The references should be cited in the numerical order in the text.
  • Kindly indicate that the dimensions in the layouts are written in the mm. It can be written in the figures caption.
  • In the abbreviations section, “ILSB” should be replaced with “ILBS
  • The obtained insertion loss (in the passband) is rather high. Please explain about it in the text and suggest that how it can be decreased in the design.

The work is clearly exposed from abstract to conclusions. I have no other suggestions in order to improve it.

Reviewer 4 Report

In this paper a tunable microstrip band pass filter is designed. In design process two design (one-section and two-section) prototypes were designed, fabricated and validated by measurements.  This paper is well organized, sufficient figures and tables are used, which can be accepted after some minor modification which listed as follows:

1-Why SMA connectors were soldered from bottom layer? Provide photo of the bottom layers in Fig 9 and Fig 21.

2-In Table 1, The length of the TL2 and TL3 are reported as 1.5 degree and 6.4 degree, respectively. But in Figure 8 (Layout of the proposed tunable bandpass filter) the TL2 is longer than TL3.

3-In Table 2, BW in some works reported with percentage (%) and in some works reported with MHz. Modified this problem and provide both BW and FBW parameters in Table 2.

4-Applied of Lumped components have undesired effects specially on frequency limitation. Provide briefly discuss about this issue maybe below paper is helpful: “Jamshidi MB, Roshani S, Talla J, Roshani S, Peroutka Z. Size reduction and performance improvement of a microstrip Wilkinson power divider using a hybrid design technique. Scientific Reports. 2021.”

5-The proposed device as simulations and measurements results (Fig 10 and Fig 11) shown, works at 9 operating frequencies, provide a performance table for these 9 operating bands and report insertion loss, return loss, operating frequency and bandwidth (BW) parameters for all of bands.

6- Provide same table for depicted results in Fig 22 and Fig 23.

7-The λg parameter in Table 2 and Table 3 are reported and obtained at the lowest operating frequency. Provide frequency values for both case.
