Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

1. There is no physical chip measurement.

2. The title is a bit confusing with "varactor-only capacitor array", as it gives the impression that the VCO does not need an inductor.

3. There is no discussion about the varactor capacitance modeling or reference, e.g.

T. H. Teo, Yong-Zhong Xiong, Jeffrey Shiang Fu and Eng Leong Tan, "LC oscillator design at 10-GHz using substrate capacitance with scalable varactor parameters extraction technique," 2005 European Microwave Conference, Paris, France, 2005, pp. 4 pp.-, doi: 10.1109/EUMC.2005.1608944.

4. Figure 6, right-hand side plot has a y-axis of Frequency (GHz). It is not clear if it is for Kvco.

Reviewer 2 Report

The article deals with current issues. The article is interesting and the issue is actual. But I have some formal comments:

Comments:

- I think, adding a clear nomenclature with the meaning of abbreviations would increase the comprehensibility of the article.

- The symbols of the physical quantities must be written in italica font, units in standard font. This graphical standard is not strictly observed in the text, equations and tables. See for example Table 1, line 187, eq. 3 (f0) ...

- There should be a space between the value and the unit. See for example lines 65, 83, 100, 116, 133, 185, Tab.1, …

- The total area of the chip must be in μm2. See for example lines 127, 129, …  Not „610 × 630μm“, but „610×630 μm2“.

- I think, the article doi:10.3390/s22207769 talks about similar issue - signal distortion between input and output of the electronic devices. I think, the article in the journal Sensors could be inspirative for authors and it could be mentioned in references.

I recommend the article for publication after a minor revisions.

Reviewer 3 Report

This work presents a K-band voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO) that utilizes the varactor-only capacitor network. It contains novelty and is interesting to the readers working in the field.

However, there still exist some grammatical errors in the manuscript. Please revise the manuscript to further promote quality. Then the manuscript can be accepted for publication.

Specific Comments:

1. The conclusions need to be reorganized.

2. The authors should make a comparison with the results in recent publications.

3. Electronics is paying more and more attention to the quality of articles, especially originality and innovation. The authors should state the innovation of the article more clearly and fully in the Abstract, Simulation results and Conclusion sections.

4. There are several grammatical errors in the manuscript. Please revise the manuscript to further promote quality.

Reviewer 4 Report

The paper is good presented with a sufficient results. There are just two concerns in the result section. which is:1

1- The measured outcomes of Reference [14] appear to be superior than the proposed simulated results.( Need Justification).

2- Including a measurable result from a practical implementation will greatly improve the proposed technique. In addition, comparisons made in Table (2) with other sources will be more reliable.
