Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

In this paper the authors are studying scheduling application tasks (either sleep or turn-off application cycles) in battery-less IoT sensor devices. The authors have also validated their approach via an emulation environment with real SODAQ Explorer board. In general the paper's technical contributions are novel and the paper's presentation style and organizational structure are good and is at acceptable level. However, there are some missing items which need to be fixed as below. Therefore I recommend major revision.

Some comments:

  • The quality of figures are low and are not visible in dark background (e.g. Fig. 6). Moreover there are many small font text which are not readable.
  • The related work section should focus more on comparisons with the state of art and differences with respect to contributions should be explicitly explained compared to proposed approach.
  • How did you derive Eq. (4) from Eq. (2)?
  • On page 11 line 339, the sentence is incomplete.
  • On page 8 line 247 it should be '2 seconds'
  • On page 8 line 258 => the shortest

Reviewer 2 Report

The authors of this paper provided a study on how to properly schedule sensing and transmission tasks on a battery-less LoRaWAN device which could be of interest to the journal readers.

However, before publishing, some spelling correction could be addressed as follows:

"Long-range" should be used on line 49

"power-based" on line 112

Hyphen should be removed from "statically defined" on line 126.

Somme commas are missing from text:

  • on line 145: "in our work,"
  • on line 167: "Finally, the time"
  • on line 325: "capacitor sizes, and"
  • on line 414: "sleep approach, the"

On line 284, "start-up" should be used.
