Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

This article provides a good summary of advantages and technologies required for the application of SiPM in neutrino telescope. It would be interesting if the author could also discuss the combination of PMT and SiPM.

This article is well written.

Author Response

As suggested a discussion about the use of PMT and SiPMs together, as well as their use alone.

Reviewer 2 Report

The manuscript reviews photon detection in modern telescope-based neutrino experiments and highlights the possible area of improvements in terms of angular position resolution. In the process, presents SiPMs as possible option and it further requires upgrading of acquisition system. The manuscript format qualifies to be publishable upon taking care of below mentioned comments.

Technical and linguistic corrections/suggestions

1.     SiPM after pulse effect is not discussed in the introduction.

2.     Line 4: Define the abbreviation, “SiPMs” can be written as “Silicon PhotoMultipliers [SiPMs].

3.     Line 7: “because of the fast signals the SiPMs produce as well as the high dark noise produced.”  “because of the fast signals as well as the high dark noise produced by SiPMs.”

4.     Line 8: “The SiPM dark count rate presents an additional challenge.” The previous sentence also represents the same thing, so no need to specify again.

5.     Line 15: Section numbering 0 or 1 [Please follow the required format].

6.     Line 19: extra spacing must be removed between source and [4]

7.      Line 22: please replace “our knowledge about the high-energy Universe” with “our knowledge of Universe at high energy.”

8.     Line 37 – 38: Reference for doubling the angular resolution by applying SiPMs.

9.     Line 47: Is it node or mode.

10.  Line 85: Please add a letter spacing between instrumentation and [34].

11.  Line 91: Delete extra spacing between use it and [40-42].

12.  Line 103: no need for the abbreviation APD as it is not used anywhere else in the manuscript.

13.  Figure 4 caption: Replace Photoelectron detection efficiency with Photon detection efficiency of SiPMs

14.  Line 100 and Line 153: TTS is defined on line 100 and no need to define again in on Line 153.

15.  Line 156: Is the low consumption in terms of space?

16.  Line 177: FPGA clock frequency restriction reference.

17.  Line 188: What is SiPMTs?
