Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

A useful paper providing an analytic method to estimate the processing time and efficiency  of the ultrasonic liquid-liquid extraction of organic substances in aqueous mixtures.  The technique used features a liquid pseudo-membrane  layer containing the mass transfer process due to the radial sinusoidal vibrations of isolated droplets.  Several assumptions have been made in deriving the model, for example assuming droplets do not influence neighbours, the droplets remain spherical and of a single representative size. Nevertheless, the mathematical model agrees well with the experimental data presented and it is simple enough to be used in practice.

The problem description is clear and the references adequate. At least 5 references are the authors' own work, but I have not been able to access them to check for commonality with this submission. At least one of the equations (11) seems to be wrong and equation references beyond ~(14) are out of order. I suggest the authors check carefully the sequence.

There are conclusions in the final chapter which are suppositions and they do not stem from the work presented. I marked these in the text and I suggest they are either removed or placed in the introduction/background section.

The language of the text is fine (a bid wordy at times), apart from a few mistypes which I highlighted in the attached file.

Reviewer 2 Report

The manuscript "Ultrasonic intensification of mass transfer in organic acid extraction" as a whole is good scientific work, nothing exceptional but it certainly makes a good contribution to the understanding of the phenomenon of solute extraction with the help of ultrasound. The reported results are of good level and the theoretical aspects are significant for these reasons it can be considered for publication on Processes.
