Cover Story: The Autodetermination At School (AAS) scale, developed and validated in a French teacher population, measures elementary students' school commitment. After confirming face validity, the scale underwent exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses, convergent validity, test–retest, and inter-individual analyses. A three-factor model emerged, with dimensions focusing on academic commitment, social commitment to peers, and social commitment to the teacher. AAS proves to be a reliable and robust instrument, highlighting the connection between both autonomous motivation and performance, and social commitment with peers and teachers. Inter-individual analysis also suggests trends related to grade, gender, and school environment effects. View this paper
