Cover Story: The study aims to evaluate the antifungal activity of L. galangal rhizome and to develop a topical antifungal formulation. The dried, powdered rhizome of L. galangal was successively extracted with hexane, dichloromethane, ethyl acetate and methanol using Soxhlet extraction. The agar well diffusion method was used to assess the antifungal activity against C. albicans and A. niger. The most active hexane extract was used to prepare the cream. The antifungal activity was tested. Clotrimazole produced a larger zone of inhibition and dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) did not produce. The hexane extract was identified as the best extract with stronger antifungal activity against C. albicans and A. niger. Furthermore, its effect remained even when it was included in the formulation of an antifungal cream. The results of different physicochemical tests showed a stable and good appearance of the cream. View this paper
