Cover Story: Asthma management during pregnancy focuses on maintaining symptom control, minimizing exacerbations, and ensuring normal lung function for the health of both mother and baby. The Global Initiative for Asthma (GINA) advises that asthma medications should be continued throughout pregnancy, as their benefits outweigh the potential risks. Unlike the old FDA categories A, B, C, D, and X, current guidelines assess the benefits and risks of each medication individually, classifying them as compatible, probably safe, or possibly safe for use during pregnancy. Essential treatments include inhaled corticosteroids and beta-agonists, with the recent inclusion of biological therapies, even if comprehensive safety data are lacking. View this paper
