Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

In this work, the Authors aimed to identify the common bacteria isolated from the uterus of camels coming from different reproductive backgrounds and investigate the correlation of clinically measurable parameters with uterine colonization by these isolates. The work sounds scientifically original. The design is appropriate. The discussion of the results is convincing. In my opinion, the manuscript fits the standard of the journal.

Reviewer 3 Report

The Authors aimed to discuss the Isolated bacteria from the uteri of camels with different reproductive backgrounds: A study on sampling methodology, prevalence, and clinical significance. The manuscript delivers some exciting pieces of information and is written in a good manner. With some minor corrections, it could be considered for publication.

1.     Authors should have performed 16S rRNA for bacterial identification after phenotypic testing to further validate results

2.     Diversity of bacteria has been identified for this current study, authors should have identified pathogenic and non-pathogenic bacteria and detecting virulence factors in them. This will have added more precise information related to the differentiation of infections

3.     Entire manuscript requires more language and grammar correction

Author Response

  1. Reviewer 3

    1. Authors should have performed 16S rRNA for bacterial identification after phenotypic testing to further validate results

    Response:

The objective of the study was to elucidate the range of microbes isolated from camels with different reproductive backgrounds under a clinical and practical setting. For this purpose, we used standard microbiology methods as described in materials and methods (line 150-165). We agree that molecular detection of organisms might further validate the findings; nevertheless, the current experiment was a preliminary study to rather focus on the missing parts of information in camels. Comparative culture results from uterine samples have been well described in other species and we aimed to focus on what is crucial in camels while avoiding lengthy details. The second focus of the study was to bridge between the laboratory findings and possible clinical application. Since culture is still the most commonly used method under the context of uterine isolates, we selected culture method for the current study.

    1. Diversity of bacteria has been identified for this current study, authors should have identified pathogenic and non-pathogenic bacteria and detecting virulence factors in them. This will have added more precise information related to the differentiation of infections.

    Response:

We agree on the importance of differentiation between pathogenic and nonpathogenic isolates by means of clinical and laboratory techniques and these will be considered for our future experiments. Since comparative culture of isolates from uterus have not been undertaken in camels, we decided to focus the current study on the identification of all isolates and provide preliminary information on the significance of all strains to provide grounds for future studies.

    1. Entire manuscript requires more language and grammar correction

An English revision has been undertaken as per the suggestion.
