Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

This paper contains helpful data of a study which examined the effects of OLR and anaerobic degree on the degradation characteristics in the biological degradation of leacheate. However, corrections to the comments below are required.

 - Title is too long, I recommend to shorten the tilte. e.g.) “Intermediate accumulation and process stability for facultative and obligate anaerobic treatment of leachate from waste transfer stations” into “Performance comparison for facultative...“

- Line 85, ”However, the effects of anaerobic degree on VFA accumulation and the stability of anaerobic process of waste leachate are unknown.“ should be addressed into ”... have not been reported.“

- Line 93, correct a section title as Materials..

- Line 95, correct into “..were operated continuously with a..

- I am confusing the reactor design. I recommend to provide the scheme of reactors.

- In table 1 and its explanation, I can’t agree to use the word of target OLR. I recommend to only use actual OLR in an entire article.

- You accomplished the experiments with different OLR. Seed volumes (or concentrations) were same in all experiments. Could you state clearly the experimental condition.

- In data analysis, you have to write how many replicated were done.

- Figure 1(A) has a lot of symbols and lines. I can not recognize separately them. Could you fix this confusing.

- Redraw all figsthat it can be read, even if it is printed in black and white,

Please correct the choice of words in some sentences. Overally, English is acceptable.

Reviewer 2 Report

In this manuscript, the authors evaluated the effect of anaerobic degree on volatile organic acid accumulation and anaerobic process stability in facultative and obligate anaerobic treatment of fresh leachate from municipal solid waste. COD, TSS, VSS, and VFA were analyzed to determine the AD process. The results indicate that the obligate anaerobic system achieved a dynamic balance. And obligate anaerobic digestion is harmonizing the alleviation of VFA accumulation and improving anaerobic process stability under high organic loading. Overall, the manuscript addressed a novel and innovative topic and presented it systematically. I would recommend this manuscript be accepted with the minor edits listed below.

1.       Please edit the format for the corresponding author email.

2.       For abbreviations, please indicate the first time it occurs. Like COD.

3.       Please review the format. Some Font size is different and the figure size is not aligned.

4.       English writing needs to be improved. Some of the statements are difficult to understand.
