The manuscript "Double layer capacities caused by Ion-solvend interaction in the form of Langmuir-typed concentration-dependence" by Aoki et al. investigates the orientation of solvents at a platinum electrode. The aim is to study the influence of variations of concentrations and salts in the context of the orientation of the solvent dipoles.

 

While their findings are of general interest and especially the conclusion section is well structured, the language and formatting of the main text make the manuscript hard to read and to follow and must be improved. 

Some remarks:

  • language needs to be improved. It is difficult to follow what is going on in the manuscript since many expressions are not precise. Also, there are many "typos".
  • line 108 it is weird to refer to the grafical abstract in the main body of the text. 
  • the placement of the figures and the resulting formatting make the text hard to understand.
  • line 314: specify what exactly is meant by "they"

Thank you very much for reviewing our manuscript, ID 1425859, entitled " Double layer capacitances caused by Ion-solvent interaction in the form of Langmuir-typed concentration-dependence". The result of the review was "minor revision". Reviewer 1 suggested revise of English, with which we agreed. We revised some English expressions by deleting (red canceling marks) and adding words.
We found that Figure 8 was lost in the PDF file although it was in the original Word text file. We added it in the revision. 
We revied the three points which reviewer 1 addressed specifically.
1. We deleted the citation of graphic abstract, i.e. ", as illustrated in the graphic abstract "
2. Figures were set on their sited pages.
3. We revised "they" as well as the following words. 

We prepared two styles of revised manuscript, (1) a marked revised version and (2) a clear version.

This manuscript describes some experiments, and a statistical mechanic calculation in order to explore the double layer capacitances (DLC) as a function of salt concentration in Langmuir-typed systems. In particular, an equation for the DLC, as a function of salt concentration and the interaction energy, is proposed. A strong correlation between the viscosity of the system and the calculated energy is also evidenced.

The quality level of this work is high. My opinion is that the manuscript deserves publication on Electrochem: it well meets its publication criteria, and proposes new important issues.
