Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
The search for desirable features related to geometry, boundary conditions and material properties plays a crucial role in the design of modern systems based on thermal actuators. Meeting increasingly demanding quality criteria along with the imposed multiple constraints of various types requires the use of effective and efficient optimization methods. This includes both tasks in which the optimal properties of actuators are searching, as well as tasks in which the features and characteristics of these systems are identified. Formulating and satisfying multiple criteria simultaneously leads to the need for multi-criteria optimization methods. The multimodality of both optimization and identification functions makes it necessary to use algorithms resistant to finding local minima. For this reason, the use of modern bio-inspired optimization methods is particularly appropriate in this case. This is particularly relevant for such algorithms as: genetic and evolutionary algorithms, artificial immune systems, hybrid and memetic optimization methods, particle swarm optimizers, and others metaheuristics. Papers devoted to the application of the above mentioned methods in both theoretical aspects, numerical simulations and experimental studies are welcome. Preference will be given to studies with solid and rigorous experimental validation on hardware.
The application of modern optimization and identification techniques based on bio-inspired algorithms for the optimal design and identification of selected characteristics of thermal actuators is entirely within the scope of “Actuators”.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Actuators is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
