Dear Colleagues,
For centuries, traditional medicine has used beehive products as a treatment for different pathologies. Today, science has evidenced the numerous bioactive compounds responsible for the antimicrobial or antioxidant capacities of honey, pollen, propolis, or royal jelly, among others. The use of these products as food or food ingredients, or their applications in the field of pharmacology or cosmetics seek the benefits of said bioactive compounds, improving human health. The current trend for the natural, as opposed to the synthetic, revalues the products of the hive, and enhances its application in different fields.
The purpose of this Special Issue is to publish high-quality papers with the aim of covering the state-of-the-art, recent progress and perspectives related to new trends in beehive products.
The following are some of the topics proposed for this Special Issue:
- Critical review of the current applications of honey, propolis, bee-pollen, and royal jelly in the food systems.
- Critical review of the current applications of honey, propolis, bee-pollen, and royal jelly in pharmacology.
- Critical review of the current applications of honey, propolis, bee-pollen, and royal jelly in cosmetic.
- Definition of identity and purity criteria of beehive products.
- Developments of new products based on beehive.
- Bioactive power of beehive products.
- Development of accurate sensory profiles for beehive products.
- Analytical methods to characterize beehive products.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Applied Sciences is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
