Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

This Special Issue aims to compile the latest research findings in the field of marine propulsion systems and their hydrodynamic performance, with a particular focus on the design and development of specialized propulsors and the application of artificial intelligence (AI) in this domain. With continuous advancements in global shipping and marine engineering technologies, the efficiency and intelligence of propulsion systems have become key research topics. As a core technology in marine navigation, specialized propulsors must meet operational requirements in extreme environments. Simultaneously, improving their efficiency and adaptability has become a current research hotspot. To address the increasingly challenging demands of shipping and marine operations, promoting innovative design and optimization of propulsion systems is of significant practical importance. Additionally, the rapid development of AI technology offers new perspectives and opportunities for innovation in propulsion systems. The application of AI in intelligent control, real-time monitoring, fault diagnosis, and optimization design of propulsors can greatly enhance the performance and efficiency of propulsion systems. By incorporating advanced algorithms such as machine learning and deep learning, AI can facilitate precise hydrodynamic simulations and optimization during the design phase of propulsors, enable intelligent scheduling and fault prediction during operation, and ultimately improve the overall system’s safety, reliability, and energy efficiency. This Special Issue welcomes contributions from researchers and engineers worldwide, aiming to promote innovation and applications in marine propulsion technology, with a particular emphasis on exploring the frontier of the integration of specialized propulsors and AI.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Applied Sciences is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
