Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Green infrastructure plays an important role in climate regulation in cities. As an effective heat mitigation and adaption component, urban greenery forms a vital line of defense against rising temperatures due to the effects of climate change and the urban heat island effect.

In this regard, the open-access journal Atmosphere is hosting a Special Issue to showcase the most recent findings related to studies in urban heat mitigation via urban greenery. This can include studies in city-scale LST and satellite imagery, ground-level greenery, streetscape, vertical and rooftop greenery, plant functional traits, transpiration models, plant heat transmission models, plant stress detection, impact of greenery on urban ventilation, indoor and outdoor thermal comfort due to presence of greenery, as well as integration and translation to landscape design practice. This Special Issue aims to showcase the state of the art in urban greenery research for facilitating an evidence-based approach to urban design to improve overall thermal comfort.

Original results from experimental studies, fieldwork, surveys, and reviews relating to urban greenery and heat mitigation are all welcomed contributions. Authors are encouraged to suggest how findings can be translated into design and planning guidelines.
