Travel Award

Dear Colleagues,

We are pleased to announce that the 2018 Biomimetics Travel Award winner is Dr. Sébastien R. Mouchet.

As a postdoctoral research associate, Dr. Mouchet is conducting research in the Natural Photonics group led by Prof. Pete Vukusik at the University of Exeter, UK, in collaboration with his former supervisor, Prof. Olivier Deparis, at the University of Namur, Belgium. His research focuses on fluorescence emission and coloration changes in natural photonic structures with the aim to develop bioinspired technological solutions for chemical sensing and biosensing.

On behalf of Biomimetics, he will be awarded 500 Swiss Francs to support his participation at the Living Light 2018 Conference that will be held from 11–14 April, 2018 in Cambridge, UK. There, he will present his work on “Controlled fluorescence in beetles’s photonic structures” and “Structural color in Diptera”.

It was a difficult decision with such high quality applications for the award and we would like to thank all applicants for submitting their diverse and fascinating range of research topics. We congratulate Dr. Mouchet for his accomplishments.
