Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Over the past few years, diverse types of nanomaterials have been well synthesized and developed for a wide range of applications, especially in the field of medicine, dentistry and life sciences. The characteristics of such nanomaterials have provided great benefits in their application for imaging and therapeutic. The elaboration of bioinspired nanomaterials resulted in several advantages such as the capability of sensing, imaging, and curing diseases with higher performance compared to the conventional methods. However, there are still some challenges regarding the use of bioinspired nanomaterials especially regarding the drug delivery system to the disease site, the properly employed surface treatment and the different functionality to fit specifically clinical functions.

This research topic mainly focuses on the design principles of bioinspired nanomaterials for imaging and therapeutic, particularly in the advantages and challenges of using such biomaterials. Moreover, the methods for synthesizing the nanomaterials, the development of new nanostructures with bioscaffolds, the morphological features of nano-bio interactions, and sensor application for the biological field are welcome in this research topic.

We welcome articles (Original Research, Review, Mini Review, and Perspective) addressing the design principle of bioinspired nanomaterials for sensing, imaging, and therapeutic. Specific themes include (but are not limited to):

  • Synthesis and engineering of nanomaterials
  • Functionalized nanoparticles in wound healing
  • Chitosan based nanoparticles in dentistry
  • Bioinspired synthesis of nanoparticles
  • Polymeric and inorganic nanoparticles
  • Asymmetric Mesoporous Materials
  • Core–shell nanoparticles
  • Design of multifunctional nanomaterials for sensing, imaging, and therapeutic
  • Applications of nanomaterials in medicine and dentistry
  • Drug delivery systems
  • Bioinspired and biomimetic nanomaterials to treat diseases.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Biomimetics is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2200 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
