Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Advanced sensing technologies have emerged as transformative tools for drug delivery, enabling the precise control and real-time monitoring of therapeutic administration. These innovations have been applied in various medical applications, such as personalized medicine, responsive drug release, and point-of-care solutions. Sensor systems, including electrochemical sensors, optical sensors, microneedle arrays, and iontophoretic sensors, are revolutionizing drug delivery by offering enhanced accuracy in dose control, the monitoring of physiological conditions, and feedback-driven adjustments during treatment. At the core of these advancements are sensors integrated with smart materials and wearable devices, providing dynamic interaction with the biological environment. These sensors are capable of detecting biomarkers, drug concentrations, and physiological parameters, which can then be used to optimize therapeutic outcomes. The continued progress in these technologies is largely attributed to developments in nanomaterials, microfluidics, wireless communication, and miniaturized electronics, which allow for wearable, portable, and implantable systems tailored for real-time drug management; however, challenges remain, particularly in terms of sensor sensitivity, selectivity, stability, biocompatibility, and reproducibility in clinical settings. Addressing these hurdles is crucial for the widespread adoption of sensor-based drug delivery systems, especially for applications in chronic disease management, cancer treatment, and wearable therapeutics.

In this Special Issue, we would like to invite you to contribute research articles, reviews, or perspectives on the latest advancements in sensor technologies for drug delivery. Topics of interest include the development of high-sensitivity sensors for controlled drug release, innovative biosensing platforms for real-time drug monitoring, and feedback-regulated drug delivery systems. We also welcome research and development on implantable, wearable, and point-of-care devices that integrate advanced sensing technologies. Theoretical research focusing on the interactions between biological systems and sensor materials is encouraged, as are in-depth reviews on current trends and future challenges in this rapidly evolving field.
