Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Modern science shows the significance of functional and smart materials to advance sustainable ecosystems and human well-being. Recent studies have demonstrated a great deal of interest in carbonaceous nanomaterials (CNMs) for their potential applications in green hydrogen (H2) production, energy storage, carbon dioxide (CO2) conversion and capture, and biomedical research. There are diverse morphologies and structures of CNMs, each with unique electrical, mechanical, optical, thermal, and chemical properties. Typically, CNMs include zero-dimensional (fullerenes, nanodiamonds, and graphene/carbon quantum dots), one-dimensional (carbon nanotubes and carbon nanofibers), and two-dimensional (graphene and its derivatives) features. The multifunctionality of CNMs offers tremendous benefits in addressing state-of-the-art challenges in the global energy, environment, and medical sectors. Moreover, these environmentally benign materials are relatively cost-effective, and they can be fabricated through sustainable strategies with minimal energy consumption. The intriguing properties of CNMs have inspired extensive research in biomedical and energy fields. Several investigations have been carried out on the next-generation CNMs to enhance the efficiency and biocompatibility and tune the functional features. The main scope of this Special Issue is to explore the recent findings of CNMs for energy and biomedical applications.
We are pleased to invite submissions in the form of original research articles, communications, prospects, and short reviews that reflect the key findings of CNMs on the following topics:
- Hybrid energy technologies;
- Green hydrogen;
- Antimicrobial applications;
- Bioderived carbonaceous nanomaterials;
- Fuel cells, batteries, and supercapacitors;
- CO2 capture and conversion;
- Syngas conversion;
- Biosensors;
- Diagnosis;
- Dentistry and gene delivery;
- Biomedicine;
- Tissue engineering and biomedical applications;
- Development of novel CNMs, including functional modifications and performance evaluations.
This Special Issue is not limited to the above-mentioned topics but also welcomes manuscripts on the significance of CNMs for electrocatalysis (ORR, OER, and HER), membranes, immunogenicity, photodynamic therapy, chemotherapy, triboelectric nanogenerators (TENGs), photovoltaics, 3D printing, computational studies, green synthesis, and scaffolds.

For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process.
